I’m under the firm belief that with sex toys, sometimes less is more. I’m not talking about less inches or vibration patterns, that would be crazy - I’m talking sheer aesthetics.

on Violet Blue’s blog. Holy crap am I still trying to figure out what it is. I think it has something to do with titty fucking (yeah, I’m not so down with that phrase either, but I couldn’t find an alternative), but I have no idea what’s with the vagina attached and the penis sticking out. Totally creepy.

I think that this is the only blog in the world (at least the only sex blog) that hasn’t really commented on the Oylmpic athletes bodies. Not that I haven’t noticed, mind you, I just haven’t commented. And I’m not starting now. I just wanted a good, quick way to bring up how sexualized the Oylmpics actually are so I could seamlessly segue into Violet Blue’s awesome look at some of the hottest sex records out there.

I don’t think that title will be winning American admiration from competing countries anytime soon. Though I do think that Kink.com should earn some type of award at the very least for “largest porn studio” (The Armory) and the F— Machines competition, held to see which female performer could ejaculate upon orgasm the furthest (under scientific conditions including lots of latex and medical equipment, of course). Anyone who calls themselves a feminist (if you’re reading this, you probably should) and works in some capacity of the adult industry will be asked what feminist pornography is over and over again. Violet Blue’s thoughtful piece in response to the Feminist Porn Awards breaks it down in a way I wish I could have last weekend. Although, in my defense, you try discussing Dworkin after 4 hours in the sun drinking bad beer.
The best thing, for me, to come out of the feminist porn awards this year is that suddenly everyone is talking about women and porn a lot. I’ve read a bunch of great articles and blog postings over the last week that discuss the fact that women enjoy watching people fuck and that it’s pretty great. Yes, there are movies that make my tummy hurt a little, but there are also a lot of great things happening in the adult industry that many women can be empowered by. I mean, I find the fact that Paris Hilton authored a book totally humiliating, but I’m not going to stop reading because of it.
For those of you who are too busy to follow the link and read the article in it’s entirety, here’s a fantastic quote from Alison Lee, the manager of Good For Her:
“A porn film can be classified as feminist, I think, as soon as women are taken into account as viewers, and that as actors within the film, their own desires are taken into account. This means basically showing that women have just as much right to erotic entertainment as men do, and their desires and pleasure is important, too. I don’t think that feminist porn has to show women at all though, and there is a growing body of excellent smut out there starring trans people (mostly trans men so far) that is looking to show genuine pleasure, consent, and loving relationships outside of the gender binary.

Fine, I admit it. I’m a jerk. I’ve been putting off reading Violet Blue’s Lust, a collection erotic stories for women, because there is a picture of a boy kissing a girl on the cover. I have a huge pile of erotica waiting to be read and I have passed by this one a dozen times because I assumed it had nothing to offer me since I like girls. I’m not sure why I had such a bad attitude, I love Violet Blue and have devoured many books from Cleis Press in the past. All I do know is that I’m glad that I finally gave Lust a chance; it’s a great collection that’s sure to entice an eclectic group of women.
The reason I finally picked this one up was a story called “The Butch, The Boy, and Me” by Andrea Zanin. It sounded like a fantastic gender fuck and I had to give it a chance. I was not disappointed. Zanin tells the story of a woman and her lover, an intriguing boy who rejects many masculine gender traits and oozes sexuality, and what happens when a gold star lesbian gets a little curious about cock. Not only does the author deliver an incredibly hot story, but she does an amazing job of showing the fluidity of gender and sexuality. I think that no matter who you fuck, you’ll come away from reading this story with an elevated heart rate!
After reading Zanin’s piece, I knew I had to give the rest of the stories a shot and I thoroughly enjoyed most of them. Maria Matthew’s first published story, “Out of The Shower,” has me anticipating more and Bonnie Dee’s “Ripe Fruit” left me longing for the fruits of summer!
I’d definitely recommend this anthology. Through reading, I’ve learned more about myself and am reminded that Lust often transcends gender, a lot like love.
