This coming weekend ESPN will be investigating the dismissal of two University of Nebraska wrestlers after it was discovered that they had appeared in solo scenes for a gay porn website. I am really excited to see them covering this and having seen “Outside the Lines” episodes in the past, am counting on them to take a serious and unbiased look at the case.
Both men were most likely in violation of NCAA rules when they accepted money for the shoot, but I’m interested to see what the University and ESPN has to say about it. If they’d shot for a hetero site, would the outcome have been different?
As a former NCAA athlete (some of us go pro in pornography) I understand the importance of representing your university in a positive light and agree that these men would probably have been better off not shooting porn. Whether they like it or not, when they accepted their scholarships they signed up to be role models to kids and highly visible representatives of the school. While a scholarship is not a pay check, it’s pretty freaking sweet to graduate without $100,000 in debt like the rest of the kids who can’t run as fast as you.
There’s a lot of discussion, especially regarding basketball players, about whether college athletes should be compensated in some manner considering the millions of dollars that flow into their respected universities thanks to their very desirable skills. Were these boys so hard up for cash that they had no other choice? I’m guessing it was just an easy way to make a quick buck.
While I think they made a poor choice, I’m really interested to see how much the fact that they shot for a gay site influenced the outcome. Hopefully, ESPN will touch on all of these issues in a tasteful manner. I will definitely be watching.

Even after watching basketball for hours on end this weekend, I’m still really excited about the tournament. I thought I’d highlight my top five sports-themed pornos to celebrate my favorite time of the year! Of course, the majority of them are gay movies because apparently dudes like to fantasize about jocks a lot.

The NCAA tournament begins today and I am really looking forward to plenty of great games and upsets. While this may not seem like the most appropriate place to write about sports, studies have shown that young girls who participate in athletics have lower rates of pregnancy and substance abuse than those who don’t. Plus there’s no denying that participating helps to build self-esteem, leadership skills and to educate about the importance of taking care of your body! If something is good for women and their daughters, I think it’s a great topic for this blog.

Of course, the men’s tourney kicks off today and I’ll be watching as soon as I finish work, but I’m also looking forward to the women’s games which start on Saturday. Because of Title IX, my generation has been afforded opportunities our mothers were not and because of this the women’s tournament has become really competitive and fun to watch. As a former player and coach, I know how much time and hard work they put in at the gym and love to watch when it finally pays off with a chance to win it all!
Of course, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t make an effort to tie in pornography, so here’s a hot basketball themed movie to help get you ready for tip-off at 12:20.

Last weekend, Elton John hosted the 16th Annual Advanta World Team Tennis Smash Hits to benefit people with AIDS in the greater Atlanta area. I’m a huge tennis fan and now a bigger fan of Andy Roddick, who raffled an hour of naked tennis instruction to help raise money. He initially offered to do it shirtless, but soon raised the stakes. In the end, the winning bid was $15,000.
While naked tennis sounds a little awkward, i think it’s pretty great that the recently engaged Roddick went so far to raise money for a good cause. Personally, I’d rather play tennis in my underpants and then get to watch Roddick shower after.
While Roddick is a fine specimen, this got me thinking about what athletes I’d like see naked and came up with the following list:
1. Sue Bird. She’s totally jacked. I’m a huge basketball fan and have marveled over her arms for year. I’m sure the rest is just as spectacular.
2. David Beckham. He’s obviously gorgeous, but I’m including him simply because we’ve already seen so much. It only seems fair to check out the goods at this point.
3. Shaq. Ok, I don’t really want to see Shaq naked, but the whole curiosity factor is enough to get him included here. Dude’s 7″1′. My real NBA pick would be Corey Maggette, because I suspect his body is perfect.
In closing, I’d like to apologize to M for stealing her sports beat. In an effort to make it up to her, I’d like to suggest readers check out her review of Switch Hitters and say “Go Phillies!”

AreYouRomantic.com recently ran a Sports Lovers Poll (which, coincidentally was sponsored by Caesars Pocono Resorts, near where I grew up) that asked how their favorite teams impact their, well, favorites in life. Faithful readers of this blog (HM4Her contributors) know that sports are a huge part of my life. Colossal, even. If you made a pie chart of my interests, sports would be the big slice – right next to knockin’ boots…or cleats, for me.
Unfortunately, my love affair with anything centered around a ball sometimes ruins my chances with those who have balls of their own. Watching the game can sometimes make a man forget about “running game” and when you combine that with a chick who knows what’s happening on the field…well a man could lose his mind. Case in point: in the 2006 Rose Bowl matchup, Texas beat the favored USC. It was the first time my then-boyfriend was spending the night at my place. He was rooting for USC. When the game was over, we didn’t have sex. According to the Sports Lovers Poll, my ex isn’t alone: 17% of respondents think their performance in the sack is directly related to their team’s performance on the field. Ugh.
There were a lot of other surprising answers. For instance, did you know that 1 out of every 4 sports fans would give up sex for at least a month if their favorite team won the Super Bowl? And 11% of respondents would give it up for “however long it takes” to win the Lombardi trophy (that’s the name of the Super Bowl prize)! However long it takes? There are 15 teams who have NEVER won a championship!
Personally, I’m a baseball fan above all so my season is winding down – but I’m not. Although I am guilty of prolonging poking until the game ends, I have never waited an entire season. Or even a month. I have used SportsCenter in the background as a way to “keep me in the game”, but to be honest, it’s just because my partner had no idea what he was doing down there – and I didn’t have the heart to tell him otherwise.
Ladies, this football season, remind the football fan in your life that there’s no reason he or she should wait 17 weeks to score a touchdown of their own. Bring some of your own fantasy football to gameday by wearing next to nothing (or nothing) and surprising your partner for a halftime quickie. Regardless of the score on the field, he or she will feel like a big winner by the start of the 2nd half.

Another Gold for Team USA! The United States defeated Brazil in the match for the medal in Women’s Football! And we all know what does a soccer win means! A super hot ripped chick tossing off her shirt in celebration! I know, it’s really about the athletics and their amazing sports powers, but I can’t help but get all giddy over this picture. I’m only human, and inked up player Natasha Kai is making it hard for me not to look…

AND apparently she plays for my team. Hmmmm….
xoxo

… that even though this year’s women’s beach volleyball was amazing, nothing beats their Athens win.
