Silicone lube has ever really been a big staple in my toybox. Being the silicone toy slut that I am, I don’t even keep silicone lube in the same place for fear that it may spill and melt all my precious playthings (silicone lube + silicone toys = melty mess). Yep, I am pretty much a water-based lube lady at heart. But lately there have been a few times where my standard go-to lube has failed me, by either becoming too sticky or drying up so quickly that I’m stopping to re-apply more and more often. And while those are standard flaws when it comes to water-based lube, I figured that now is as good a time as any to take another look at the slippery goodness of a quality silicone lube.  So of course I was more than delighted to oblige when Babeland sent over a bottle of the good stuff – Pink silicone lube!

Pink is basically the gourmet of lubes. Made with dimethicone (the highest grade of silicone), Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, Pink not only feels super slick on your parts, it also works to moisturize them! Hot, right?! Especially in the skin drying weather that this winter is bringing. These ingredients are quality and with a high-end product like this, you know you aren’t getting any filler crap. Plus Pink is vegan and gluten-free, which is a total win for anyone that has those requirements.

I’m not sure what my favorite part of this super awesome lube actually was, so I’ll narrow it down to the top two reasons to go run out and buy this. First – the bottle. Pink comes in a discreet bottle with a pump top that only gives you a dollop of lube at a time. Whoever thought to give lube bottles a pump is a freaking genius! After countless accidental lube spills using a flip-the-top-and-squeeze bottle, I seriously appreciate having a controlled pumping system – and a top cover to make sure it doesn’t spill if you bring it out on the town!

My second favorite Pink quality was the super long lasting slickness of the lube. While water-based lube is said to mimic a woman’s natural wetness, silicone lube is way slipperier. Where I was continuously reaching for the bottle with the water-based stuff (and other silicone lubes, actually), the Pink lube really stayed slick and workable for a long time. And absolutely no stickiness!

On the downside of the extreme slipperiness, Pink lube is water-resistant. Yes, this is a good thing if we are talkin’ about shower sex, but when it comes to simply washing the lube off, it takes more than one lathering up with soap. If you don’t get it all off, it makes you feel kind of greasy, which is not so sexy… at least not in my book.

Though I probably won’t hit the silicone lube super often because I love silicone toys so much (and yes, you can totally just put a condom on your toys to protect them from the lube interaction, but like I said, I’m a neurotic freak about it), I know that I have a go-to slick silicone buddy to keep close at hand.

There are some stories that make you just wanna shake your head and sigh.

A California woman thought she’d save some cash by taking matters into her own hands and performing a little DIY plastic surgery on her own face.  Ordering silicone from the internet for $10, the lady proceeced to shoot it into her lips and cheeks.  Of course the next day her whole face became totally inflammed and swollen and she ended up needing a series of operations to correct it anyway.

I don’t know which is worse, that she put lube in her face, or that she really thought doing it herself was a good idea.

Let this be a lesson to us all.  Lube on your bits = awesomeness.  Lube in your face = not so great.

When I revived a bottle of Universal Lube, a silicone based lubricant that claims to be safe to use with all products and materials, I was a little nervous. The thought of ruining one of my precious silicone toys made me a little reluctant to try it.

In certain situations, I really love silicone lube and it’s a damn shame that so many of my toys are not compatible with most of them. Silicone lube tends to last a lot longer than water-based products, which means you typically don’t need to reapply and if you’re looking to play in the water, it’s really a must have.

Because I believe that certain situations really call for silicone lube, I started out by testing two of my toys with this product. As you all should know by now, silicone lube + silicone toys traditionally equals one melted silicone mess and I wasn’t taking any chances. I simply dabbed a bit on my fingertip and applied it to the base of each toy. If this product ended up damaging my dildos, I didn’t want it to be anywhere that counted! The great news is that neither toy was damaged. The rumors were true – this silicone lube can indeed be used with silicone toys! Of course, I will test each toy before using just to be sure, but I feel pretty confident with the company’s claims.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about this product. I LOVE the fact that it’s really compatible with my favorite Fun Factory toys. I also love the idea of coupling this product with silicone butt toys and overall I have to admit that, in spite of my initial reluctance, it’s a pretty good product.

One thing I didn’t like is that Universal is a little more oily than my favorite silicone lube, Pure Eros Light Love. It’s not gross, but it is noticeable and makes clean up a little more work. I haven’t run into any problems, but am a little concerned about this product reeking havoc on my vag’s PH because it’s a bit oily.

And cause I’m working on being a glass half full kind of girl, let me just say that this is one of my favorite bottles! It has ridges on the sides which means it’s easy to hold onto, just in case things get slippery. Of course, that doesn’t seem likely because the flip top cap dispenses it without lots of mess. Oh. And it looks cool.

In the end, if you’re someone who has been wishing for the sleek slide of silicone to enhance their favorite silicone toys, I would say this product is worth checking out. If you’ve got a water-based product you’re happy with, I’d stick with it because lube is a super personal thing.

Get wet and wild with Universal Lube!

Back to our quest to find the perfect lube for you! As I mentioned in my earlier piece on silicone lubricants, most lubricants are either water or silicone based. While you’ll often hear me rave about Silicone lube, there are also a few deal-sealing pros you should know concerning water-based products. They definitely have a place in every woman’s bedroom.

A lot of people think that water-based lubricants resemble a woman’s natural wetness closer than any other and I tend to agree. A good product will keep things wet and wild without even being noticed! For this reason, if you’re new to the lube game, you should consider a water-based product.

Another great thing about water-based lube is that it is compatible with basically everything. No matter what toy you reach for during the heat in the moment, there’s no worry about incompatibility like if you’re using a silicone lube. You don’t also don’t have to worry about water-based products breaking down condoms, dental dams, or any other safer sex accoutrement.

One of the best things about water-based lubes is that they’re relatively mess free. There are always exceptions, but in general you can assume that they won’t stain your sheets. Clean up is also quite simple, just a quick rinse with soap and water and you’re all set.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you’re trying to find one universal lubricant, although I strongly suggest investing in a few quality products for use in different situations. First, if you’re looking to get down in the shower, hot tub, or any body of water, water-based lube isn’t going to cut it. It will wash away before things even start to get interesting. Secondly, in my opinion, a lot of water-based lubes aren’t great for anal play because they are relatively thin. There are exceptions like Forplay and Maximus, but you definitely need to consider the staying power of a product if you’re looking to explore butt sex.

One final thing you should look at, and this should be considered any time you’re putting anything into your body, is the ingredient list. Lesser companies may not consider your well-being in designing their product. Keep an eye out for lubes that contain any sugar and stay away. A lot of women are sensitive to glycerin, and it can make you more susceptible to infection, so you should keep an eye out for that too. With the big push towards green products, there are new options every day for those of you who are looking for more natural alternatives. One last thing I suggest is looking for Paraben-free products – your girl bits will thank you if you avoid these irriatants.

Sadly, there is really no perfect lube that will satisfy every need for the sexually adventurous, but armed with a little knowledge you’ll find yourself experimenting with a variety of products that’ll enhance your sex life!
