So I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this title yet. Suburban Dykes is one of the first pornos I ever watched on purpose. Sure, I’d giggled over skin-e-max movies and had seen bits and pieces of horrifying things over the years, but this one was planned out in my junior year of college. It is, despite the totally dated hair and clothes, still one of the best lesbian movies I’ve ever seen and let me tell you why.
First, it stars Nina Hartley. Since I manage to bring up my love for her about once a week, I will say no more.
Secondly, Dr. Sharon Mitchell plays a bad-ass butch chick who rocks a purple strap-on cock with a gorgeous lean body. Mitchell is a porn goddess and the Director of the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation. I have a think for chicks with brains, hence my fascination with Hartley, Mitchell, and my nerdy girlfriend.
Next up is the movie’s focus on safe sex. Not only do they practice it, but Mitchell takes the time to talk briefly about it before fucking Hartley.
Finally, the sex is hot. The women have incredible chemistry, and while they’re sometimes silly (there’s a pillow fight) - when it comes to the dirty parts, these women are 100 percent dedicated to pleasure. The final threesome is fantastic and each woman’s desire is apparent. When Pepper begs to fuck Mitchell, it’s obvious just how bad she wants it and what follows is magic.
In a perfect world, these three women would get together and film an updated version of this movie to prove that women of all ages are sexy as hell. I have no doubt that it would be absolutely amazing, even without Pepper decked out in a pirate shirt!

Blackmail, money and corporate greed - not the usual ingredients of a hot porno flick, but they work surprisingly well alongside the fucking in this vintage feature. Heavy on the classic adult stars, including vixen Veronica Hart, a young Ron Jeremy and Sharon Mitchell, who later went on to co-found the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation (AIM), this 1981 release turns the tables on the male dominated work places of the time. Kind of like a porno “9 to 5.” And you know Dolly Parton would totally agree. 2008 AVN Award Nominee for Best Classic DVD.

I decided to take a step back in time and check out one of Candida Royalle’s older films, and it was worth the trip in the time machine. While the outfits may be a bit outdated (and holy giant cell phone, Batman!), there is a distinct lack of old school “porn star hair.” There is an over abundance of acting, dialogue and plot; Not a pretense of a plot, but an actual plot with character development and suspense. There is a reason that this one is in the Feature category. This isn’t to say that the sex got lost in the plot. It didn’t. With well-known, hot to trot stars like Sharon Mitchell, Herschel Savage, and Chloe featured, this flick couldn’t contain bad sex even if they try their hardest. This one is like a day dream come to life on the screen, with a mystery man in the mansion on the hill, a beautiful heroine looking for direction in her life, and enough steamy sex to keep you going for a while. Add the fact that Femme Productions is known for producing feminist, ethical porn, and you’ve got a winner in my book. Plot? Check. Hot sex? Check. Feeling good about watching sex? Check. This film has it all!
