Jamye Waxman’s Sex.ed has run in Playgirl since 2002, so of course, she had some really insightful thoughts on the recent announcement that their last issue will be printed in January of 2009.
I’m not happy that Playgirl is folding. Not because I’m losing a job, I mean it sucks to go from writing a regular advice column to not writing it, but more because I think that Playgirl, had it listened to some much needed advice since I’ve been part of their pages, could have been something beautiful. There is so much potential for a magazine that appeals to women (and men who like looking at men, and reading about women), but for some reason, in the United States we can’t seem to execute the formula of naked men + intelligent sexual conversation + interesting topics that appeal to women = happy magazine.
It is unfortunate that women won’t have access to anything like this in the U.S. Thankfully, there are a lot of intelligent women out there like Waxman pushing for a positive discussion of sexuality amongst women. The rest of us just post pictures of Bret Michaels…

It turns out that the rumors are true! After years of providing reading material for girls to giggle over at bachelorette parties, Playgirl will cease to exist as a print magazine. Women will still be able to get their nakey guy fill at the website, where they will continue bringing beautiful (mostly gay) men to the masses.
I’ve never really read Playgirl, but it’s still kind of sad. I have no idea where to look for my Burt Reynolds fix now…

 I’ve always been a fan of short stories. Whether I’m reading or watching them, I really enjoy small vignettes into people’s lives, even if they are fictional. That’s one of the reasons I like Playgirl DVD’s fantasy videos so much. With little snippets of plot and narration, you get all the benefits of a bunch of sensual scenes without the long, drawn out plot that some movies can end up having. And with six scenes, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. Like take scene one, for instance. Moving day sucks, there is no two ways about that. But from the looks of this newly cohabitating couple, there are definitely some fun ways of relieving all the stress. Even though scene two was a little on the boring side for my tastes, I did enjoy watching Roxy Deville squirm all around on an overstuffed couch. I do wish she would have kept her sexy cat eye glasses on through the scene. Scene three is completely out there, with a snow machine and strips of red cloth, but it’s pretty hot and hey, like I said, something for everyone. The performance of scene three actually ends up working nicely with the realism of scene five, with a little ex-husband debauchery shoved in between for good measure. And though it’s last, scene six is certainly not least, by any means. Marie Luv takes her man in a private Jacuzzi. Well, in, around, on the bench, wherever really. They are smokin’ hot, though I was a little fearful of Marie falling into the water when they fuck waterside. Yum! Hot guys bringing all sorts of delicious fantasies to life from sex outdoors (in a bathtub to boot) to romantic trysts by the pool, to the real estate agent turned naughty, to my personal favorite; a hot boy and his hot rod, sharing a moment (he’s jacking off, watched by a bobby-soxer, unbeknownst to him).
