Online Dating

I know I’ve been quiet and sadly it hasn’t been because someone swept into my life and swept me off my feet. The opposite in fact, I’ve kind of been cowering under my bed. You see I read a lot of dating advice (because I’m curious and clueless in almost equal measure) I’ve looked into those aimed at women, written by both sexes and some aimed at men written mostly by men. For the most part they all fill me with a combination of despair and disgust and after a prospective date read my online dating posts and said it sounded like I don’t like men I came to a horrible conclusion.

No I’m not going to stop dating, on or offline I’m still very committed to finding love (and I’ll take a couple dozen hot bed partners along the way if you please). Nope, my shocking conclusion is pretty simple – for all intents and dating purposes, I – am a man. I’m not questioning my gender or my orientation but according to just about every bit of ‘knowledgeable’ advice out there, I date like a man. I know, just accept it it’s clear for all the world to see in my posts that I’m aggressive, sex driven, shallow and hard as hell to pin to a commitment.

In today’s edition of my online dating adventures I’m looking at sex. Well I’m always looking at sex, I work for a simply huge porn purveyor (and damn proud of it) but I’m looking at sex, in relation to the online dating process.

You see, it comes up a lot when you’re dating or looking to date or haven’t had sex in a while however long that while might be – when does one start having sex with someone new? To be really honest, whenever you want (after STD checks on both parties’ part would be great but we all know sometimes the mood swings contrary to common sense) whether that happens to be the first date or the fiftieth is up to you and your partner.

It’s almost the most dreaded day of the year for all of singledom (and it’s not exactly looked on with anticipation by many of the clueless who have managed to blunder into couplehood either) Valentine’s Day. Just typing it sends shivers of fear and loathing down my spine and I have no idea where that came from as I’ve always been relatively indifferent to the overly commercialized holiday before – though that didn’t mean I wasn’t a stickler for getting a romantic surprise of some sort on V-day, some guys really need that one day a year reminder, sheesh.

Well I’ve got very little advice on how to weather the V-day blues since this’ll be a first for me and I’ve just started ‘dating’ again (so much work and so little hanky panky). Except for two little nubbins of ‘wisdom,’ first and foremost – this year all the lovelorn are in super awesome luck as the dreaded V-Day also happens to fall on Lunar/Chinese New Year. New Year’s celebrations have always been a boon time for singles (Pagan, Chinese, Solar are all great times to be foot lose and fancy free) so head on out to the nearest Lunar New Year celebration and have the damned fine time you deserve!

And two, well this is best for those who have made a connection but not quite sealed the deal. Celebrate with a little sext! Yes I know, I’m usually screaming at the top of my lungs about not sexting but sometimes a girl drinks a bottle of expensive vodka and feels like making an exception. If you are feeling like you might be wanting to spend the night sexting, for heaven’s sake take the tips offered by Fleshbot (the one about assuming any and all pics can and will be released to the public is particularly good advice) and sext safely.

Alright I’ve got drinking to do, emails to read and pics to browse while drooling and imagining what our kids will look like (kidding! I kid, I kid!)

Well despite the ‘blizzard’ knocking on my door, spring is fast approaching and with it will come my renewed desire to have fun outside of my house, probably. There might even be a desire for some of that fun to be of the naked variety and maybe involving bodies other than my own. So I’m about ready to get back to the old online dating scene in preparation for the fun sexy times I’ll be craving.

In the meantime, I haven’t been entirely idol. I checked out Fetlife, briefly (I’m still there – sort of – lot of reading to do) but mostly I’ve been playing video games and hitting on other gamers. Thanks to a recent post on Jezebel I realized that some readers might be interested in how to turn some of these internet connections into bona fide relationships.

So it’s winter and I’m cold blooded which means I’m actually going out about as much as your average black adder right now – when I heard about FetLife. You see sometimes even I’m late to these kinds of parties and I’ve discovered a rather odd thing – I occasionally scare the crap out of people on OKCupid. I don’t know why, I’m just your average sweetie who reviews porn heavy on BDSM and Hentai for a living, what’s to fear? But alas fear they do (or drool creepily at the mere mention of porn – too much interest in my job can be a turn off, sadly) so I’m looking for more understanding/interesting stomping grounds for the winter.

For the next few days I’m going to set up an account and explore FetLife till my curiosity is sated, I grow bored or the weather heats up and I go back to actually meeting people face to face, which ever happens first. Till then I’ll be taking my online dating*activity there (what little dating my winter libido can sustain anyway) come in and be my friend, or whatever they do on FetLife I’m not entirely sure what that might be yet, I’ll be the usual FrzKey you’ve grown to know and love.

*Ok maybe not dating, more like exploring as FetLife is a social networking site not a dating site in anyway shape or form but because it’s not really the kind of place I can explore without joining I’ll join first and then figure out what I’m doing there and I already mentioned being outside as much as your average black adder.

There’s a magical thing that’s happing worldwide thanks to the internet – the world is getting smaller. What does this mean in online dating terms, well it means that you’re almost guaranteed to bump into someone you know during your dating search. You see, off line when you, your friends, ex’s and family members go out to meet people – you go to different places and very easily meet different people there. But when you’re all online there’s a greater chance you’ll all end up in the same dating pool, especially if you’ve been raving to everyone that will listen about your favorite dating site like I’ve been.

So, how do you handle the situation when you bump into someone you know a little too well online? Well if it’s someone like you’re ex, it’s simple – ignore them. No use in blushing or pretending you do/don’t have a successful account and if they came up in your matches you probably showed up in theirs as well. It’s only natural; you did date them once after all, just chalk it up to the system working pretty well and delete them from your searches so you don’t bump into them later on.

It’s Black Friday (not to be mistaken for Black Monday or my beautiful black ass) which means that the majority of, well, everyone in the US of A is off shopping, not working and certainly not home trying to make whoopee through their respective keyboards. In the holiday shopping, getting away from your keyboard, spirit I have a confession to make – every now and again I slack off on the dating site thing. It can be sparked off by almost anything, like not having a huge net crush write me back, going on a really great date, or being just plain tired of spending all my time cruising guys and attempting to seduce with my words alone (seriously, I thought that’s what my breasts were for). This time it was triggered thanks to being pretty ill, a hospital level of ill, and we all know how hard it is to find a date when you’re doubled over in pain.

I’m going to take a break from my usual frustrations trying to find a mate in the male half of the species in order to take a closer look at attempting to be safe when finding dates online. In a lot of ways dating online is no more risky or less so than dating in real life, the person you met in the bar the other night can be every bit as sketchy as the one you met online. But with the recent news from AVN.com about the Cleveland Rapist/Killer having an account on alternative dating site, Alt.com, coupled with the previous Craigslist Killer, I’m sure we all remember too well, it never hurts to go over the basic safety tips one more time.

Google them! I’m putting this one first because it is the easiest fasted least stalker-tastic way of checking up on your date. A quick Google search of their screen name, email address and/or real name if you have it is a great way to see if they’ve been in the news or maybe if they have any special interests you’d like to be appraised of, like having an diaper fetish.

The Dating Game via GameSpot

I’ve been struggling with a way to approach this topic for quite a while. Most of the approaches I’ve attempted ended up coming off as overly ranty and almost as bitter as the bitter ‘advice’ posts I was railing against. Hopefully this one will be more helpful.

Personally – I hate games almost as much as I hate drama. This is not to say that I haven’t engaged in both; games much more often than drama, I am sadly/fortunate enough to very rarely care enough to start any drama though I am stubborn enough to stick it out if I get drawn into someone else’s drama. But I digress, the way I see it, if you’re going to bother playing any dating game at all – why not make it a fun game instead of a desperate one?

Things I consider to be fun dating games? Trolling for numbers: dress up, go out and see just how many people beg for your digits or readily hand over their own, you can use any technique that you want except physical touch. Wink, giggle or smile: dress up again and practice making eye contact in various ways. Crushing hearts like tinfoil: self explanatory. Dating games I consider less than fun, actually kind of desperate at best and a pathetic type of delusion at worst? Anything that involves rules or denying how you feel and what you want. Like not approaching him if you’re interested and making a mandatory three day notice rule for dates.

There’s a horrible affliction affecting millions of single men and women (yes women are afflicted with this too) the world wide. It’s an absolute epidemic and it’s called – being horny.

Yes, this is a horror that at some point almost every single person must face (asexuals get to opt out on this one, those lucky non-buggerers). It’s a wide spread menace that threatens a single in all kinds of interesting ways. For example: shall you go for the one night stand and if so how do you insure you’re safe in and out of the sack? How do you assure their timely departure when you’re done with them? What about ‘walk of shame’ wear, do you pack something for the occasion before you go ‘on the prowl?’ If you’re a little too uptight for the guiltless quickies, you might be inclined to hop into a disastrous relationship for the plentiful nookie it could provide. So as you can see, ‘being horny’ can potentially compromise your body or the happy, single,  life of one who doesn’t have to take care of the non sexy needs of a living sex toy constantly.
