Sasha Grey, that is. We woke up this morning to an awesome pop cultural commentary with the 2010 mainstream crossover star on Nerve.com.
Check out some of her comments:
The Graduate
See The Graduate. I recently re-watched it and I think it’s a hilarious film. It’s actually one of the best comedies out there. And there are just so many layers to that film: it’s funny, it’s serious, it’s dramatic. It has things that everybody can relate to. And there’s definitely an aesthetic to the film, visually, that’s lost in the majority of films today. [Ben Braddock] just graduated from college. Whether or not people are college graduates, [they can still think], “Okay, I’m twenty, twenty-one years old. Where am I going from here? I’ve been completely serious about my life up until this point, but now I have no idea what I want.”
Richard Kern
Right now I’m actually editing my own book, so I’m kind of in pain, going over and over and over things with a fine-toothed comb. And that’s coming out this fall. It’s a photography book, and there’s a lot of self-portraits and a lot of documentary-style photography, and my views on the photographs in the book, what they mean to me, and what inspired me to take them. I’m a huge fan of photography, a huge fan of Terry Richardson. I actually had the pleasure of shooting with him five or six times, same thing with Richard Kern. Especially Kern, I think he has such an interesting aesthetic. He lifted up that new-wave, post-punk era, and I really enjoy his aesthetic and his approach to his work.

Happy Humpday! Welcome back to the mid-week stretch. And welcome to March – the month that goes in lion and out like a lamb. It’s the month that officially brings us into the spring season, and I could not be happier. There’s nothing I love more than spring… well, watching folks fuck on screen isn’t too shabby either, but spring means I can watch people fucking on screen with the windows open! Anyway, that and the fact that it’s Humpday has put be in a fabulous mood and has me giddy and searching through the interwebs with vigor! Good thing you get the fruits of my labor! So sit back, relax and let’s get to it with a little link love!
- XKCD always seems to get it right, especially when they talk about sex.
- Speaking of things that are geeky awesome – Playing D & D With Porn Stars. That’s right, Dungeons and Dragons… Holy crap, does it get any nerdier/sexier?! I think not. (via Fleshbot)
- Fabulous San Francisco-based queer porn empire Pink and White Productions has recently published their safer sex best practices in porn standards, complete with health resources. Healthy safe sex = Awesomeness. Thanks Pink and White! (via Tiny Nibbles)
- Queer porn star Jiz Lee is all about giving back to the community and is hoping that we will help out too – with a special porno incentive to make it super extra worth your while! We <3 Jiz!
- Finally! A study that tells porn like it is – that it’s not harmful and yes, it can even be beneficial!

Nerve.com was one of the first websites that I actually followed on a regular basis. Way back in the late 1990s, one of my friends mentioned a smart and sexy website over lunch, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I mean, where else can you find pictures of naked girls, witty blogging, and thoughtful essays? Well, besides Hm4her.com, of course.
By combining edgy photography with the best writing from the last decade, they’ve somehow managed to capture the essence of Nerve.com in a book. This super hot collection will make dedicated readers remember why they fell in love with Nerve so many years ago and is also a great introduction to those of you who are still trying to figure out e-mail.
I love the chance to ogle ten years of amazing photography, because for me, there’s something different about turning the page and being taken aback by a beautiful image. Clicking on a thumbnail, although convenient, just isn’t the same. And while this collection is totally eye candy, the editor did a great job of selecting a great mix of writing. You’ll find pieces that are insightful, funny, and just plain hot through out. Plus if you’ve been looking for sex advice from Republican activists, you need look no further than this hot pink tome.
With the holidays coming up, it’s never too early to start picking up gifts, and this book from Chronicle Books is definitely worth considering. It’s perfect for anyone who loves Nerve.com, sex, or stuff that is awesome.
Get your own rad piece of pop culture!
