Happy New Year! 2010 is finally here and January is already in mid-swing. By now most of us have vowed and failed at our New Year’s resolutions, creating a headache around the whole ordeal. This year I’ve decided to forgo the resolution rush and take my time with deciding what works for me and how to really achieve maximum J.D. awesomeness. So, twelve days into this new year, I’ve finally figured out what 2010 will mean to me and the top five things that I hope to get going in the months to come. And stick or fail… at least I have my porno! Read the rest of this entry »
I’ve always been a visual learner. You could explain something to me 100 times, but I might not be able to truly get what you mean until you draw it out, so show me some other visual representation… like a movie. That’s why I really love instructional porn. Not only do you get verbal instructions of specific sexy acts, you actually get to watch someone playing out those verbal instructions! Now that’s what I call hot for teacher! And because I love instructional porn so much, I just had to dip into the 2010 AVN noms for Best Educational Release and check out the sexy studies!
While the category is full of delectable treats from the likes of Tristan Taormino and Nina Hartley, I thought it would be fun to try out a new name in instructional porn – sex expert, Midori! From the awesomeness that is Vivid Ed, Midori brings us this expert guide to sensual bondage, directed by Tristan Taormino (so we already know it’s fantastic). I’ll also admit that I don’t know a ton about sensual bondage, so just like everyone else, I am here to learn.
Before we even got into the meat of the movie (pun intended, of course), I loved that Midori was taking about communication and safety. As a sex educator myself, I have my own style when it comes to getting sexy info out there, but I am pretty firmly attached to the idea of making sure folks understand the basics of communication and safety before moving on to technique. I know that sounds like common sense, but it isn’t always the case, and I think it’s important to call out that I admire Midori’s educational structure.
Along with all the super interesting and important info about bondage, restraints, blindfolds and safe words, I was pleasantly surprised to hear Midori add yoga and stretching to the mix. I loved that she included the whole body in her instruction, as well as before and aftercare, which is so important when it comes to bondage and power play. I also really appreciated that she went into mild detail about why we don’t actually bind the joints, but instead slightly above them. Maybe it’s just me, but when I get an explanation about something, I am way more likely to remember the info.
I was super impressed that this flick made sure to mention both standard bondage fare, as well as a few cheaper, around-the-house alternatives, such as scarves and robe sashes. In this economy, it’s important to pay attention to what is realistic to people. Sure, I do not have the funds to buy top-of-the-line cuffs, but don’t I deserve to get busy like the best? Yep!
When it came to the actual demos, I really liked that Midori joined the couple in the bedroom for extra instruction, as well as helping tie knots herself. I also liked that she left after a bit to let the couple experiment and “research” what they liked best. But even when she left, she was still there in voice over, giving ideas and tips. Instructional porn should always be this fun!
And of course we can’t forget Madison Young’s scene 4 appearance. She was seriously librarian hot in those thick black cat eye frames and black heels. You know, as many times as I’ve seen Young topping someone, it really never gets old. I’m hoping that never changes.
All in all, this movie is super educational, interesting, sex and fun – everything that makes learning new things a blast. So get your notebooks out, your pencils ready and your scarves at arm’s reach… class is about to begin!
Sexuality educator/artist Midori’s “The Loveseat” is on display now at Madison Young’sFemina Potens Art Gallery in San Francisco, along with the rest of her one-woman exhibition entitled “Plastics.”
Author, educator and artist, Midori, is turning the gallery into a delightfully disturbing plastic sanctum, predominantly utilizing the iconic blow-up doll. No one ever admits to buying these dolls, let alone using one, and yet they are produced in vast quantities, in the sweatshops of developing nations. Constructed to represent a fetishized image of desire, the dolls in turn are produced and fed to a hungry society of insecurity and fear. In this interactive installation Midori critiques and revels in all things beautifully grotesque. (Femina Potens)
When porn meets art, both begin to take on a new form… and there is no one I’d rather have tie it up in rope and work it over more than Madison Young. Porno director, fetish star and queer art gallery director, the amazing Miss Young has her hands in everyone’s cookie jar, and shows no signs of slowing down. Part of the queer sex positive porno renaissance in San Francisco, Madison Young has pulled her fetish niche out of the dungeons and into the light of mainstream adult, merging the two into a provocative and inspiring mix of bondage, story, performance and, of course, super hot kinky sex. Whether Madison is behind the camera, on the bed, or both, she brings an element of raw emotion to the project, which is a rarity when it comes to porn. Luckily this busy lady found time in her fabulously hectic life to give us twenty questions worth of lovin’. I hope it doesn’t mean one less orgasm for someone else!
1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
Over 6 years ago I started performing and directing for adult films and web sites. I got into the industry in order to fund my nonprofit queer community art gallery and performance space, Femina Potens. I’ve always been a kinky exhibitionist and wanted to participate in a powerful medium in which I would have an opportunity to create visibility for women who are aggressive around their sexuality and making myself open and vulnerable to connection with my on screen partners and at the same time have a chance to educate others around sex and sex positivity. Having a camera present for the last 6 years of my sexual growth has proven to be validating to my own sexual desires and to my audience.
2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
I’m currently engaging in all of the mediums involved in all of my major interests – sex, art, feminism, gender politics, education, and writing. When I’m not in front of the camera I’m either directing porn, directing my gallery, or writing essays for books on feminism and submission.
3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from the industry? One thing I’ve learned and always stuck to is never engaging in anything that I couldn’t explain and stand up for to either press or my mother. I strongly believe in the work that I’m engaging in. I put all of my heart and body into this work. And I believe that it is important to develop a language around explaining what we do, how we do it, why we do it and the way that it effects us and our audience.
