Inside of the 2 ounce tin lives the tiny Ignite Me Massage Candle from Good Vibration candle made from soy wax, soybean oil, coconut oil, shea butter and fragrance oil.  It gave off a gentle scent that didn’t make me sneeze nor was I able to taste it at the back of my throat.  I was a little worried about this when I saw fragrance oil in the ingredient list!  This pleased me.  I’m not sure whether or not it smelled like morning dew (its self proclaimed scent), but it had a fresh clean aroma.  I lit the candle and left it in my bathroom for about 30 minutes to get the oils flowing, and to see if the scent would fill the small space.  When I returned, there wasn’t much of a smell in the bathroom at all.  I suppose this was good news for my tear ducks (strong scents tend to sting my eyeballs), but I was hoping to walk in to a yummy smelling bathroom.  This wasn’t a big deal, though.

After the 30 minute waiting period, there was a clean burning candle and a small pool of oil.  There was enough oil to massage my entire forearm.  I poured it into my hand and massaged it into my skin.  It was hot of course, but totally tolerable.  It felt nice on my skin, creating a nice smooth surface for massage. It wasn’t super greasy like baby oil or other regular massage oils, but I have nothing to compare it to in the way of candles.

The Ignite Me left skin feeling quite soft and moisturized.  I left it on my skin and it pretty much absorbed in about an hour or 2.  The faintest hint of “morning dew” scent was left behind, which was nice.  I can’t really say if there is enough goo in this small candle tin to give a full body massage, but there is definitely more than enough for a decent back massage.

I don’t want to make a bigger deal than necessary, but I definitely plan on handing this thing to my boyfriend to use up on my tired muscles.  I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a basic massage candle without an offensive perfumey smell.

Next thing I noticed about the kit, maybe it was all that vanilla scented stuff in such a small container but the whole thing smelled really, really strongly. Usually I’m all for something to make the office smell a little bit better but that little bundle smelled so strongly I ended up having to put it in a drawer till I could take it home. It was much more appreciated in my living room combating stinky litter box odors later on though.

By the time I took my kit to the bath with me, I was really ready to love this little package. It hadn’t had a fair shake up till now and I was eager to get the notions and potions out and to the test; more than ready to hop into my tub with a long vanilla bubble bath and let all those negative points just melt away in the heat. I went to pour my bubble bath, upended the bottle over the tub and nothing came out – each tiny little none internal use bottle had a little seal over the mouth. Not the punch through aluminum ones, but the tough as nails paper and plastic ones and not a single one of those seals had a little easy pull tab so I had to sit down and scrabble around the tiny lip of each bottle to get to the bubble bath, oil and lotion.

That was not relaxing at all.

But I did manage to get them all open. Diffused in a bath tub the scent of the bubble bath was actually more over powering but the bubbles had a reasonable lifespan in the tub, I did need to use more than half the bottle to get a really good bubble going in the tub though. That’s didn’t surprise me, it’s really hard to find a good bubble bath that produces tones of bubbles without tons of soap and then holds those bubbles long enough for a nice long soak.

After the bath the vanilla scented lotion was a cool and smooth treat on my skin. I didn’t really see it as a massage lotion – it didn’t warm too well in my hands though it went on smoothly and easily, it also absorbed right into the skin, indicating that for use in a massage you’d quickly end up using the whole bottle. Bath plus lotion left me smelling a bit like a sugary confection however and when I went out that day I felt I collected an unusually large number of mosquito bites.

The massage oil on the other hand, was my favorite part of the kit. The scent wasn’t as heavy as with the bubble bath or lotion and it warmed up and glided on the skin pretty easily but with a denser consistency than something like baby oil.  Being a heavier oil also meant that it was a little difficult to spread and I ended up using more of it in one go than I wanted. So the next time I took it to the shower with me and applied it to wet skin after. That did the trick and the oil glided over skin with ease!

I’ve wanted a soy massage candle for forever and was super excited to get my hands on this one but, maybe because of inundating my senses with so much of the other items, the scent on this one was so light it didn’t even seem to fill up my bedroom. When poured on skin the oil was much more noticeably fragrant however it was still light enough that I needed to really put my nose up to skin to get a whiff of the stuff.

Finally the massage bar, I didn’t really have any preconceptions about this one. I’d never heard of massage bars before and was simply excited to see it was composed of shea and cocoa butter which my skin absolutely loves. It was already partially melted when I got it and just seemed to melt more every time I picked it up to unwrap it from the foil packaging, leaving my hands slippery well before I finished opening the package.

All in all, I’d say this is an ok gift to someone else if they have a penchant for really strong scents and/or you know that they love the fragrance you’re giving them, it also doesn’t seem like the type of thing you’d get someone you know well or really like. It would make a great gift for a coworker’s birthday for example, but for your sister I’d say go in a different direction. I know it’s the kind of thing that I’d stick onto a prominent shelf in my bathroom so it could be seen, but probably would never actually use if not for this review.

All that added up to me being super jazzed when my Kama Sutra Love Essentials Kit arrived in the mail. In the interest of sharing the joy, I opened it up right in the office so everyone could admire my new toys and the packaging. Everything was nestled neatly into this little cardboard box with a kind of dark jungle motive on it. Of course I grabbed the feather duster first and gave myself a little experimental pat.  Nice, but I didn’t see it as a powder applicator – way too sparse at the tip and too compact at the bottom.

Of course I wasn’t really that interested in the feathers, so the next thing I pulled out of the box was the satin bag. I don’t know what I was expecting when I opened that bag but it definitely wasn’t what I saw, a plastic baggy with a twist-tie at the top full of whitish powder. That was a rather unsexy way to get my first batch of body dust. Definitely not for long term storage, was I supposed to use it all in one go and then toss the thing? I’d have had to upend the whole baggy in the shower and then been frosted white from top to bottom – and looking like a rather unfortunate victim of an “I Love Lucy” parody is not what I call the sex.

Still, the powder tasted perfect; sweet but un-identifiably so. Something that when added to skin gives a sweeter taste to the flesh and conjures up whatever pleasant flavor you or your partner can think of. But if I thought that of the powder, I was absolutely floored by an unexpected treat in my package – the Oil of Love. An edible massage oil that was indescribably sweet, but not intrusive – which my playmate thought tasted like coffee and I couldn’t identify.

I hadn’t planed on playing with anything sticky and sweet and potentially a mess to deal with later, but decided I wanted a massage after my shower to wash off the remaining dust and gave it a whirl. Points for being an excellent massage oil, a little goes a long, long way, we didn’t even empty the tiny sample bottle. Extra bonus points for that gentle sweet flavor that enhanced but didn’t overpower. But where this little treasure really shined, was what it did for my skin.

I mentioned I tried it after my shower, which mid-massage I kind of regretted because here was the sticky mess I’d always feared and wanted to avoid. I definitely felt sticky for a good bit afterward, but I decided not to waste the water on a second shower (it was a weekend I could damn well wait for the next day to have a shower). Well after sleeping in the stuff I woke up with skin that didn’t taste at all sweet anymore, sheets that weren’t stained in the least (ok sopping wet in exactly one spot for reasons I’ll get to later) and – skin so soft, moisturized and smooth I’d have thought I spent the whole night gently working in some of my solid jojoba butter if I didn’t know better! Sweet oogly moogly, we have a winner! If I didn’t fear being eaten by bees on my way to work, I’d probably insist on slathering that stuff on every day!

Ok, onto the wet spot – my Love Essentials Kit also came with a little squeeze tube of water based lube. It’s very easy to over squeeze on that little tube in the dark in the midst of a testing frenzy, ok. Use with caution. No it won’t stain, but if you pour the whole damn tube on your bed the way I did, it will take a really, really long time to dry. Other than that, I’ve got no complaints on the lube.

You open the box to find two bottles – one containing a water based lubricant and the other a massage oil, clasped to the top. In the open bottom drawer are two condoms and a little peach-colored disposable vibrating cock ring.

Down to the nitty gritty – I started out with the oil (foreplay, gotta love it) and really liked it from the opening. It had a mild spicy kick to it that created a nice warm scent. The oil was light on my skin, but had a good spread to it allowing lots of massaging per application.

The lube went on like a dream and was great fun for a few minutes, but quickly became gummy and needed a little more water to reactivate. I do not recommend using this lube for oral sex, as it has this horrible chemical sweet taste that I found really unpleasant.

Both bottles had one major failing. Tiny, slender and definitely eye-catching, they were also too small, with nozzles too petite, to really get enough with one pump. This necessitated repeated pumping to get a reasonably workable portion to start with. You’ll also feel obliged to go back to pump out more, but with hands already slick from the first application this only gets more difficult each time.

I don’t have much to say about the condoms beyond them being the usual great one-time use protection from STD’s, unwanted pregnancy and the horrors of spending hours washing your toys off. The vibrating cock ring, well, it was my first and I had a little bit of trouble maneuvering it properly… or maybe it was the fact that the ring is made from an unspecified jelly compound that was harshing my horny, but either way I tossed the ring before the battery actually wore completely down. A pity really – if the ring had been made out of something a bit more durable and a bit less questionable, I probably would have kept it and just replaced the tiny bullet when it was dead.

All in all, despite the minor frustrations, I had a lot of fun with the kit and definitely would recommend it for a quickie. Everything is designed to be used fast and easy, then discarded – but I think I’m going to try and keep my box as a memento.

The Ember is a really nice candle that’s perfect for massage. It is a little pricey compared to many, but if you consider how long it’ll last and quality, it’s a good investment if you can swing it!

Nor did I find that the heavily fruity scent soured throughout the day as I’ve found other fruit based fragrances tend to.
