Last month when I headed north for the Feminist Porn Awards, I was lucky enough to not only get to spend a little quality time with the fabulous April Flores, I got to meet her amazing husband, director Carlos Batts as well!  It turned out that I was staying at the same hotel as them and latched on to their awesomeness, hanging out with them during the events of the weekend.  Did I mention how much I love my job??

Anyway, one of the great things they did that weekend was come to my room and shoot a little video.  Ok, not THAT kind of video (hey, a girl can dream) – an interview!  A few months back, we interviewed the pair at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, which was fantastic, but I wasn’t actually able to be there to conduct the interview (I just sent my questions with our people that were there), so I knew I had to lure them into my room to get the scoop myself.  Also, the last time we interviewed them, it was pretty much all about their latest movie, Artcore, which is awesome, but I wanted to talk about other stuff too.

April and Carlos were downright charming (duh) and spent a good long while answering my questions and generally being the rock stars that they are.  Take a look at our awesome chat about how they got started, what it’s like working together and what is coming in the near future!

We are finally back with out third and final recap of Good For Her’s Feminist Porn Awards, which recently took place in Toronto!  For those not in the know, the FPA’s celebrate the best of the best in hot ethical smut and the folks who make it.  Pretty awesome, huh?

When I last left off, I was just heading over the the awards with the fantastic April Flores and her husband Carlos Batts.  We got there for the VIP (Very Important Perverts) party and got a chance to hang out for a bit before the crowds started piling in.  And hold crap were there crowds – the place was seriously packed out.  Standing room only.  But before that happened, I made sure to snap a few pictures with some of my favorite porno folks!  Oh, and my apologies on the dark pictures.  I only had my iphone with me, like a total jackhole.

First up was the rockstar that is Jiz Lee.  It was so nice to see Jiz again, exactly on time for ‘our every six-months meet up’ (for the last three years, we hang out at the FPAs and the New York Sex Bloggers’ Calendar Party, which are six months apart).  They are doing so much, porno-wise that it’s so nice to catch up every once in a while and hear all about their travels.  Good stuff!  Jiz was also in 12 (I believe that’s the number) of the nominated movies.  Jiz = pure awesomeness.

Also fucking awesome,  sex author/educator/smut maker, Tristan Taormino.

Tristan is such a amazing sex educator and total badass of the field/industry.  I am seriously in awe every time I get to be in the same room as her.  And after her awesomely rousing speech the previous evening, it was even more exciting to spend some time chatting.  Not only did Tristan announce Best Bi Movie and Steamiest Romantic Movie, she won Hottest Kink Movie for Tristan Taormino’s Rough Sex 2!!  If you’ve seen the movie, you totally know why it won – holy hottness!

I was also super excited to meet star Sophia St. James, who is seriously a force to be reckoned with.  I mean, look at her – she is a goddess!  And the sweetest lady in the whole world!

We had been talking over twitter and Facebook for week about meeting up and once I saw her at the awards, I couldn’t help myself but to bounce over to her and nearly hump her leg… or just give a super warm hello (though I want to hump her leg…).  I love love love that she got into queer porn after she found it online when she way laid up with a broken knee and elbow.  Not the broken bones part, but the discovery. How awesome.  AND Sophia’s directorial debut, Twisted Getaway, received an honorable mention!  So fantastic!

And because the lighting was so much better in the bathroom, I swiped a picture with Tina Horn in there as well.

How hot is that gold dress, right?  Love it!  Tina and I talked a bunch about sex education, cause that’s how we roll, and mused about how QueerPorn.TV, her fantastic project with Courtney Trouble, was basically porn from the Feminist Porn Awards last year.  How full circle is it that QPTV was one of the honored websites this year?!  So awesome.  Tina is just one of those bad-ass folks that can get shit done and turn her ideas into reality.  On that note (since they are both super bad-asses), I need to mention that Courtney Trouble wasn’t able to come this year and she was super sorely missed.

Also got my annual requisite shot with Awards organizer, Alison Lee, which made me quite happy.

And we can’t forget to take a look at the best dress of the evening…

God damn, April Flores is one hot mama!  My favorite part of her outfit was that it was freeeeezing outside and she had on a coat and a long scarf, so she was totally underwraps, but once we got inside, this came out!  I love undercover hotness!  And because April is so amazing, she even spent a little time with my favorite travel buddy, Paul.

Look how happy that frog is!  In pure heaven, for sure.  April is seriously rad for letting me capture the forbidden frog/human love in picture form.  Quite excited!

And lastly, before the awards began, I was chatting with director Anna Devia when a photographer came up and snapped a photo, which I have graciously nabbed from the Feminist Porn Awards Facebook page

Alright, enough photos of me rubbing up on awesome porn folks, let’s get to the actual awards.  So… let me just get it out of the way now that I took a bunch of photos during the awards.. but nothing I could possibly get away with posting.  So much blurriness and dark dark dark.  Sigh, so you’ll just have to return to that FPA facebook page if you want some amazing photos.  Here, you’ll just get some stories, a few videos and a couple more pictures0.  Also, since you already know who won awards, I’m not going to go through each award and give the winner.

In fact, this post is getting so long, I’m gonna list my favorite parts of the evening instead of a blow by blow of each minute. So, let’s get going!

- The evening opened up with Ryan G. Hinds giving us an amazing rendition of Rent’s ‘Out Tonight,’ which I love and fit the mood so perfectly.  Ok, another picture, because I got a decent one of him.

It was pretty freaking awesome!  Ryan also did special correspondent duty for the evening, doing interviews with Jiz Lee and Bobbi Star and went into the audience.  HE was a total gem!

- Another fantastic performance was Boylesque TO, who featured hot dudes, dressed in button ups with babies in carriages and doing a hilarious burlesque dance.  I only WISH I has video of that amazingness.

- Though Courtney Trouble couldn’t be there for the awards, she still sent on her thank you with Judy Minx, which she read when QueerPorn.TV won as one of the honored websites.  So excited that I got a video of all the website thank you speeches.

- When Jiz Lee told Ryan Hinds that they were hoping to win Slut of the Year (which is not a category, but totally should be!).  Hilarious.

- The Masculine Eye Candy for the Feminist Smut Lover part of the evening, which was full to the hilt with delicious clips of men getting busy, including lots with Mickey Mod.  Yum.

- It was so exciting and sweet when reigning Heartthrob of the Year, April Flores passed her crown to performer Drew Deveaux, who really is Heartthrob of the year.  This lady is everywhere these days, rocking the porno screen all over the place. Check out this super cute picture of Drew hanging out with Jiz Lee, and one of her with her beautiful award (glass butt plugs this year!)

Drew is awesome and I seriously can’t think of anyone else that deserves the Heartthrob title more! Here is her amazing speech, which I found online and did not shoot myself.

- And why did I not shoot Drew’s speech?  Because I had to head up to the stage directly after she got off and present the Movie Of The Year award.  I got to read my little script, announce that Erika Lust’s Life, Love, Lust won, and watch Lust’s pre-taped ‘thank you’ speech, which was super cute.  I was so honored to present again this year and beyond excited to announce the Movie Of The Year.  It was so much fun!

The whole night was so fantastic.  The Good For Her crew does an excellent job each year, both featuring amazing movies and with the actual awards.  Plus the party turns dancey as soon as the lights go up!  One last picture to keep your mind in the gutter!

We are back again with a second recap of the fabulous 2011 Feminist Porn Awards!  To get us back to where we were, I headed north to the FPA’s to celebrate all the best in ethical smut and all the folks that make it.

When we left the first recap off, we had just arrived at the Public Provocative Porn panel on Thursday evening and Tristan Taormino kicked off the festivities with a rousing speech that got everyone in the mood to watch some dirty flicks!  The night’s big movies being screened were Oral Sex For Couples, Volume 2 by Jaiya, Artcore by Carlos Batts, Drew Deveaux and Mickey Mod from QueerPorn.tv, and Mommy is Coming by Cheryl Dunye.  All so fucking fantastic!  It was also really fun because  I was sitting next to April Flores and got to talk to her about the scenes she was in, while they were playing on the big screen.  I’m a total porn nerd like that, clearly.

I was also so excited to listen to the panel of film makers speak about the movies they made and answer questions.

The next day I was fortunate enough to have a delightful lunch with the amazing Alison Lee who puts together the whole Feminist Porn Awards.  I would be lying if I didn’t say that I am totally in love with her and revel in any time I get to be in her presence while I am in Toronto.  We also stopped at the most bizarre (and apparently famous) bargain store for me to grab flats to wear to get to the awards before changing into my heels (always so practical!).  What an adventure.

After lunch, I scurried back to my hotel to get ready to do an interview with April Flores and Carlos Batts, which I was suuuper excited about.  Of course since I had my phone off (I might have made a really bad decision about making calls and next thinking about international rates… oops.), I missed that they needed to push the interview back and I interrupted some porn making when I came a-knocking.  Whooops.  Sorry all.  So, I ended up just going back to my room and doing some work until they were ready.

Once they were finished and good to go, I talked to them for a bit about a project they are working on (not mine to talk about), then got them together for a sit down where I got to hear all about how they met and all other good stuff you will see when I post up the video in the near future.  I don’t wanna blow my whole load is this blog post!  But check out this super sweet picture of April and I.  Love it!  April is such a fucking hottie, right?

After chatting for a while, it was time to shake a tail feather and get ready for the awards!  We all parted ways for a few hours, did our thing and re-met down in the lobby to street car ourselves to Berkeley Heritage Events Venue for the Feminist Porn Awards!

Late last week, after getting back from Dinah Shore and taking some personal days to get my sex education teaching on, I hopped another plane to join the best of the best in awesome porn in Toronto for the 6th Annual Feminist Porn Awards!  Put on by amazing sex toy store Good For Her, the Feminist Porn Awards celebrate the most  fantastically sexy, ethical dirty movies from the past year and the smokin’ hot folks who make and star in them.

Being my third year at the awards, I was an old hand by this time around.  And not only did I get to come to the awards again as one of the main sponsors, I was actually asked to present an actual award again this year, which turned out to be the big one – movie of the year!  Talk about being honored!  Same as in the past few years, I hunkered down at the Gladstone Hotel and got a chance to hang out with some of the other folks staying there as well, including the seriously awesome April Flores and her husband, director Carlos Batts.

I got into Toronto on Thursday morning, just in time to miss the opening party for the weekend, but still on task to have a little chill time (my room wasn’t even ready for a few hours when I got there – had to shop… bummer) before making my way over the Public Provocative Porn screening and panel later that evening.

But before heading over there even, I had the great fortune of rocking the pre-porn screening party at Good For Her, where I got to see my lady love, Alison Lee (the amazing woman who puts the awards together), reconnected with the fabulous Tristan Taormino and Ms. Flores, meet Carlos, bear hug Tina Horn, Drew Deveaux and Jiz Lee, meet Jaiya of New World Sex Education and Nic Switch and spend time with so many folks that I don’t see often enough. What a way to open the evening!

Soon we headed over to the Public Provocative Porn screening and panel, where the room was packed with amazing Canadian perverts who were itching to see some fuck flicks!  What fun!  I firmly wedged my bottom in a seat between April Flores and Bobbi Starr, who is equally as sweet and fantastic.

J.D. is off gallivanting in Toronto at the Feminist Porn Awards and hobnobbing with the “best of the best in hot ethical porn”.  I so wish I could be with her, but instead I’ll review another one of this years’ nominated films.  It’s not quite the same, but I like watching porn any day of the week so I’m not sad about it.

There is a gaggle of great pornos on the nomination list (I haven’t seen them all, but there’s a really good chance they are pretty fantastic). I chose one of Madison Young’s films because when I hear the words “feminist” and “porn” together, I think of her.  I admire her as a performer and director, but most of all I respect her appreciation for the importance of honesty and chemistry when it comes to porn.  She is a self proclaimed feminist that likes it rough and kinky.

So exciting!!

Friday night (4-15)  brings the actual 6th Annual Feminist Porn Awards!  And along with getting to just celebrate and enjoy the evening, I get to be a part of the action, yet again, and present one of the awards!  How freaking cool is that!?!  I am so super excited to be up hanging out in such an amazing hotbed of sexy activity for the weekend and getting a chance to spend time with my GoodForHer friends.
