While we were both in Toronto for the awards a few weeks back, I had the great fortune of sitting down with Erika Lust for a chat about the work she does, her ideas about the industry in general and women’s sexuality in general. And lucky for you all, I got the whole thing on video. In fact, the interview was so long, we had to break the interview into four parts!
Before I post the video of part 1, I really have to say that Erika Lust is one of the sweetest, most down-to-earth folks I’ve ever had the pleasure of interviewing. She was nervous about being in front of the camera, but once she got going, her passion and obvious love for what she does took over and her amazing energy lit up the whole screen. See for yourself!

It’s been a minute since we’ve celebrated the hump – what with all the Feminist Porn Awards travel and recap adventures, but we are back today, with a bunch of link that we’ve been keeping on ice in the back, just waiting for the right moment to release them into the wild. Last week the 2012 Feminist Porn Awards nominees were announced and a bunch of seriously awesome movies made the cut. Nice work, perverts! While I’ve had the great honor of reviewing some of the titles, there were a few that we have on the site that I never got a chance to check out. I figured that now is the perfect time to send a little review love to some of our FPA hopefuls! Today we are spending some time with Babes In Bondage 4, a Julie Simone flick featuring lots of ladies bound, gagged and ready for action. The big difference here, though, is that these women are tied down and left to hang out. No sexy activity needed to make this movie hot – just ladies in all states of undress, rope rigged and ready for our viewing pleasure!
There is something seriously sexy about solo bondage play. While it doesn’t invoke the usual porno formula of stimulation until orgasm, the stark difference makes it extra hot in my mind. Whether the ladies are tied with rope, rolled in duct tape, gagged with an apparatus that has a toilet brush attached (how else would the slave clean the toilet??), or rigged high above the floor, they are all having the time of their lives. Who needs climax when you can barely move your (consensually) trapped body?
Of course since I am a sex educator through and through, I need to add this piece in. While most of these women seem to be bound and all alone, in fact there is someone with these ladies at all times (you know, behind the camera). I personally would not suggest getting yourself into a bondage situation you may not be able to get out of without anyone else around. Sounds like it could end badly. Heck, even if you know you could easily escape, still let someone know what’s going on. The last thing I want is someone really getting hurt from something that is supposed to be sexy fun.
All in all, I love this tied up party for one. Even with each scene offering up a similar premise, the variations were just enough to keep my attention for the whole 90 minutes. Nice work, Ms. Simone. I wish you luck in Toronto (and hope to God that you are there and I get to meet you!).

The Feminist Porn Awards (or FPAs) is an annual event that showcases the best of the best in porn made for and by forward-thinking feminist folks of all genders (though the movies have to have a woman’s hand in the production, writing, directing, etc.). Welcome back to the second part of our awesome interview with star April Flores and her husband, director Carlos Batts! A few weeks back we spent a delicious hour all together in my hotel room in Toronto (for the Feminist Porn Awards) where the pair sat for an interview (get your minds out of the gutter…) and answered all these random questions I threw at them. Bless their pervy hearts for not walking out.
Last month when I headed north for the Feminist Porn Awards, I was lucky enough to not only get to spend a little quality time with the fabulous April Flores, I got to meet her amazing husband, director Carlos Batts as well! It turned out that I was staying at the same hotel as them and latched on to their awesomeness, hanging out with them during the events of the weekend. Did I mention how much I love my job??
Anyway, one of the great things they did that weekend was come to my room and shoot a little video. Ok, not THAT kind of video (hey, a girl can dream) – an interview! A few months back, we interviewed the pair at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, which was fantastic, but I wasn’t actually able to be there to conduct the interview (I just sent my questions with our people that were there), so I knew I had to lure them into my room to get the scoop myself.
