When it comes to porn for women, the first name is my mind is always Candida Royalle.  Long before there was a marketplace of women making dirty movies for women, there was Candida Royalle, creating porn she was interested in watching with her studio, Candida Royalle’s Femme.  This particular movie is from the late ‘90s, but Ms. Royalle has been rocking the porno screen since the mid ‘80s, giving us what we wanted before we even knew it could be an option – and always mixing interesting stories with her tasteful, yet hardcore sexy, action.

Candida Royalle’s One Size Fits All is billed as a sex comedy in 5 acts, but really it reminds me more of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” though with a risqué purple dress that makes all of the people who owned it think about the amazing sex they had while wearing it, and/or have amazing sex while trying it on.

Funny enough, out of a group of four friends, it just so happens that two of the women have owned the dress before, from the same dirty dog man who gave it to each of them – and the third friend found it in a thrift store after it was dropped off there by yet another woman.  They offer it up to the fourth friend to borrow (and her assistant who tries it out), making it so every single person in the movie that wears that dress gets the awesome fucking of their life (five in total – hence the five acts).

My favorite of the bunch is, of course, Nina Hartley.  She is charming as she gets so excited over trying on the dress and reminiscing about the amazing sex she had with the man who gave it to her.  We get to see that action, so it’s easy for us to see why she would want to think about all those hot memories.  The guy (Mark Davis) is super sexy and quite the attentive lover, giving Nina (Tammy, in the movie) everything she wants.  Too bad he ends up being a jerk later in the movie, which we find out, but don’t see.  The rest of the sex is really exciting too – including an amazing hot fitting room scene with Tom Byron and Gina Rome.  Plus we even get a cameo from director Candida herself in the beginning.

I don’t know if I’d call this a “sex comedy” as it is touted, but it’s definitely a great plot-driven porn with a smart story, great cast, and smokin’ sex.  Check it out!

Love, Life, Lust: Erika Lust brings the awesome in everything she makes.  This woman is seriously awesome, but you don’t have to believe me – just take a look at this porno masterpiece. Divided into three vignettes – life, love and lust (a total shock when you think of the title, I know), this awesome 35 minute flick takes on each segment with a fresh perspective and amazingly hot action!

First Dates: Here is something you don’t say a lot when it comes to porn – I LOVED the plot of this scene. It opens with Kane talking to the camera, lamenting her lame love life and sharing her hope for meeting a woman that has no idea about her porno career, so she can get to know the real Kimberly first. Hell, she’s so desperate, she’s trolling the vegan boards – and she’s not even vegan. The camera moves over to Amile while she gets dressed for her date with Kimberly. Admitting that one major reason for her excitement is that she’s seen all Kimberly’s movies, and even though Kimberly said she is an accountant, Amile knows the truth.  So Cute!

Female Fantasies: With a title like Female Fantasies, how could I let this one pass me by? Especially after I read the description – that the scenes are based on erotic fantasies that the director’s (Petra Joy) female clients and friends sent to her. And that they are performed with real life lovers rather than porn professionals. How hot is that?! Well, the actual scenes are even hotter. The fantasies are all over the map, from a sensual orgy to one man jerking off in the shower. There is even one filmed entirely underwater!

True Fucking Love: Six real world couples hit the sheets (or couches, as I’ll explain later) to get down and dirty in from of the porno camera. For some it’s an anniversary gift to themselves; others just do it for fun – either way, all the alt twosomes seem to be having a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, by opening every scene with an interview (and sometimes a quick cameo by Joanna Angel herself), we as viewers get to see their real relationship dynamics and find out a little about them before the banging begins.

NoFauxxx Roulette: Back in April, when I first got to see a snip of this movie at the Feminist Porn Awards, I knew we just had to have it. DIY queer porn from the awesomeness that is Courtney Trouble – does it get better? And don’t think this is some amateur flick with poor video and even crappier sound. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. This award-winning (it won “Most Deliciously Diverse Cast” at the Feminist Porn Awards!) romp is totally high quality, as well as thoughtful and packed with sexy queers really getting off.

Three Daughters: At a time when men dominated the porn industry (oh wait a sec… yep, still happening), Candida created Femme Productions, a studio with a mission to create hot erotic movies that appeal to women. So instead of getting a raunchy fuck flick (though, I like those sometimes too), you get an artfully directed erotic story with a plot that actually pulls you in and when things start to heat up, you get the real deal! Amen!

Artcore: I think it’s pretty obvious that we are talkin’ about . Everything Carlos Batts brings to the porno table is more exciting than the next – and this time it’s Artcore, a fucking amazing romp through a whole host of deliciously dirty sex acts featuring my personal favie, April Flores (who is also Batts’ wife). Each of the four scenes is totally different from the next, creating a multi-layered porno adventure that has me glued to the screen in anticipation of what comes next.

Sinderella & Me: Nica Noelle and the fabulous folks over at Sweet Sinner bring us this latest retelling of the classic story, adding in a ton of super hot sexin’ and a juicy little twist to the original ending, which, in my opinion, only makes it better. Packed full of the hottest performers (Manuel Ferrara, Jiz Lee, Allie Haze, Dylan Ryan, Wolf Hudson and Darla Crane), this pervy ‘princess’ tale is definitely one to watch!

Straight Guys For Gay Eyes & Women Too!: Dirk Styles: Watching Dirk spinal tattoo undulate from behind as he fucks Amber Rayne is, hypnotic. I’m serious, I don’t usually like watching guys fuck from behind with a rear view because I get bored with nothing to look at but their delicately flexing butt cheeks, but Dirk really was hypnotic, I couldn’t look away. Shout out goes to Amber Rayne too, she really seemed to be enjoying herself with Dirk’s very athletic attentions.

Tristan Taormino’s Expert Guide To Anal Pleasure for Men: There is no one I would trust more with my ass than Tristan Taormino. You don’t get the title of anal sex queen for nothing and Tristan more than lives up to her moniker with this instructional butt sex for boys movie – not to mention her entire line of anal awareness flicks.  My favorite part about Tristan Taormino’s instructional movies is the way she educates without ever making you feel like you are learning something. What I mean is that she never makes it boring or tedious, even when she’s pointing out a prostate on the anatomy chart. Educating like that a pretty difficult feat and she has mastered it with grace and ease. If I end up being half the educator that Tristan Taormino is, I will consider myself to be doing a good job.

Alpha Femmes: Oh Anna Devia, with this one movie, you have wooed me so fucking hard.  It takes a lot to impress a jaded porn reviewer like myself, and you have done one hell of a job raising my temperature!  I think one of my favorite things about this awesomely kinky queer fuckfest is the pairing.  Each and every scene has such rockin’ chemistry and features the perfect duo.

Impure Hunger: This flick is definitely on the sensual side of the porn spectrum, but far from cheesy or boring. As the other Playgirl flicks I’ve watched, this one is made up of a bunch of vignettes that don’t really have much plot, but create some semblance of story to facilitate the fucking. And when it comes to the sexin’, my favorite part of these kind of movies is that though they run through the standard porn sequence of oral sex, fingering, penis in vag, they do it in a really sexy and thoughtful way. The sex is always relaxed and involves a ton of kissing and caressing before any clothes even come off. Everyone looks like they are having a great time and getting off.

Hard Love: Old school dyke sexin’ makes me so freaking hot!  I seriously love the late ’90s and early ’00s when it comes to porno.  S.I.R. Productions rocked the dirty stage back them, bringing us the best of what queer gals were doing behind closed doors.  Love this bigtime.

Her Little Secret: What do you get when you mix Jiz Lee, April Flores, Dana DeArmond, Adrianna Nicole, Marie Luv and more? A ridiculously awesome sextravaganza that could only come from the deliciously pervy mind of one Kathryn Annelle, director extraordinaire for Triangle Films. In fact, as soon as I find out a movie is made by Annelle, I know I am in for a super sexy treat. And this latest Triangle flick is no exception!

Nina Hartley’s Guide To Simultaneous Orgasm: After they talk about the myths and basic theory, Nina puts theory into practice in hot threesome action followed by a regular sex scene featuring Kayden. Orgasm after orgasm is reached and shared by all partners; they don’t really pause to explain how they’re managing this trick so it’s important not to skip over the introductory sections where they do explain the basic methodology that they use. My one gripe with this film is that I’m completely envious after watching Kayden’s display of multi-orgasmic passion with a partner that just keeps going and going.

And those are only a small serving of what I think are the best of the best in lady porn!  We seriously have an amazing selection!

We are so excited that Petra Joy is back with another installment of her seriously amazing series Her Porn.   Compiling the best of porn for ladies from a whole host of videos, Joy has created a totally fun and inspiring romp around the sexy playground and found so many super sexy scenarios for us to enjoy.  From the standard plumber comes over to bone story (scene 1), all the way to the rose colored memories of the 17^th (and last) scene, these vignettes are filled with some of the hottest, and most interesting erotic experiences.

What I really love most about the Her Porn series is that it’s not just a super long porno featuring one director’s content over and over again.  These compilations take sexy scenes from a variety of really fucking talented ladies that know how to bring their amazingly arousing visions to the screen.  This volume, 2, includes pieces from Anna Brownfield, Candida Royalle, Maria Beatty, Shine Louise Houston, Annie Sprinkle, and of course, Petra Joy herself.  If that list doesn’t send a few tingles down your pants, I’m not sure what will!

There really is no way to qualify which of these scenes were my favorites.  Honestly, they are all so completely different and amazing that it’s near impossible to talk about one over the other.  The few that stood out so intensely in my mind were the ones that made me really think, or made me wish I was home under the covers.  The two that made me sit down and really think about were definitely ‘Dildoman’ (scene 4) and ‘Who Wears The Dress?’ (scene 5).

‘Dildoman’ is a animated short that ends up featuring a woman fucking another woman with a man, using him as a dildo (sorry for the spoilers).  I wasn’t sure how to take it and I needed a minute to process through the whole thing before moving on.  Man, I love porn that makes me think!

With ‘Who Wears The Dress’ a male/female couple is fighting because they are both wearing the same dress to a fancy occasion and the woman is not happy that her man is dressed as woman, but it turns to super hot action as they fight.  I love that the story turns on its head and have never seen anything like it.  Bravo to Candida Royalle for breaking stereotype boundaries and bringing us such super hotness.

On the making-me-melt tip, the top stop goes to scene 13, which is a snippet from Shine Louise Houston’s  ‘Champion,’ which I’ve been dying to see for years.  I am actually really embarrassed to admit that I’ve never seen it!  And just getting this tiny taste has me super geared up to see the whole thing.  Just watch it and you will know what I mean.  Syd and Dallas, be still my horny heart!

I think barriers and condoms should be the “best practices” or the norm that everyone just assumes. And those barriers should be shown going on. I know a lot of folks can get frustrated getting a condom on a huge toy, when it seems so easy in movies. And showing how to avoid cross contamination, such as switching out condoms or gloves when moving from one hole to another should be encouraged. I’m always shocked at folks thinking they are being great at barriers, but then not being aware of where they just put those barriers.

I personally don’t think it should be a law…but it is key to our business model at Trannywood Pictures and Dolores Park Studios, to show as often as possible the use of barriers in hot, sexy, and natural ways.

I’ve been using condoms in my Femme Productions movies since 1988 and it hasn’t hurt their appeal one bit. In fact my audience seems to have appreciated my concern for my actors and my desire to set a good example. A few of them even said watching porn stars have unsafe sex was like watching a two actors performing a shoot-out in a western movie with loaded guns! As for the fantasy element, when it was meant to be a fantasy or a dream sequence I simply wouldn’t show that we used condoms. The one exception was when they were real-life couples or married. In that case if they were playing strangers or new lovers I would do an establishing shot showing them taking out a condom and then not worry about it.

This is a hard one, pun intended. While I think in an ideal world we’d all have safer sex, porn is supposed to be fantasy sex and in fantasy sex one wouldn’t necessarily need condoms, right? What I’d like to see is more condom use actually happening on camera, so that when condoms are used, viewers get to see the whole process from opening the prophylactic to placing it down the shaft of the penis or dildo. And maybe a BTS segment in which the actors talk about the condoms they use when not on camera, or the process of how they get tested before getting on camera. I’d love to see more support and awareness around condom use being facilitated by adult stars both in and out of the industry, even if condoms aren’t necessarily the supporting cast in the films themselves.

I would love it if we could see more sexy use of condoms in porn, because people should be using them in real life and if they saw hot people in movies putting them on each other in erotic ways, it might not seem like a buzz kill in a real situation.  However, I don’t think they should be mandatory — it should be up to producers, directors and talent.  But condom use in films should be encouraged, condoms save lives in the real world.

To me it’s not about reality vs fantasy. Most of my fantasies involve condoms and I think they are hot. However,while I would love to make it so condomless sex can’t be a condition of employment, I do have some concerns with taking decisions about their own risk management and safety out of the hands of performers – which is where it’s been on every set I’ve worked on.

Condoms aren’t the end all and be all of sexual health and risk reduction. They are great, but there are other ways to be safe, not to mention plenty of sex acts they aren’t even applicable to.

There’s an additional complication that trans people have in particular where condoms and other latex barriers aren’t designed with the way out bits function in mind. Condoms can’t be used effectively if your bits don’t get hard or if your cock is much smaller. Dental dams aren’t too functional if your bits stick out. I know folks who’ve had some success with modifying gloves, using plastic wrap, or female condoms, but it’s still a significant difference in effectiveness.

All the porn I’ve appeared in uses safe sex practices, and personally I’m very pro-safe sex in pornography. While performers are regularly tested, testing organizations like AIM only cover the most common infections. As someone who knows many sex educators, I wonder if perhaps it’d be a good thing to burst the fantasy bubble of viewers who think you can run about having sex all willy-nilly without regular STI tests and/or barriers.

That said, I’m not sure that mandatory barrier use laws are the way to go. Such stiff mandates are rarely well received, and incentive measures generally achieve better results. There’s always been a contingent of porn consumers who don’t want to see barriers in porn, and they’ll always find some way to get what they want to view.

But to answer the question I don’t think it would show a more realistic portrayal of sex because in reality people don’t use condoms as much as they should. I think that if we as film makers made condom only porn then it would become part of reality and thus fantasy as well. WOOF!!

Hi, I think condoms should be used if that is what is agreed upon between the talent.  The thing is condom use can be VERY sexy as well.  By no means does it have to a ‘clinical’ like experience.  There are several sexy and fun ways to put a condom on that play into foreplay, fantasy, and excitement.  But on the flip-side, if we are talking fetish work some scenes may not flow right with a condom (forced issue scenes, etc.).  It really needs to be left in the hands of the production companies and talent.

Looking at the question as if it were simply black & white the answer becomes obvious and we should all be using barriers all the time. We all know that it’s only a ‘matter of time’ until another HIV outbreak occurs in the industry so how does it make any sense to put the lives of talented people at risk? But, porn, like life, is not made of absolutes and human decision-making is way more involved then doing ‘right’ and being ‘safe’.

Reasons for mandatory barrier use often come back to two big things, though there’s a lot of possible reasons, good and bad. First is the impetus to have a safe work environment for talent. Second is to not contribute to HIV/STI risk through putting out “unrealistic portrayals” of how sex actually takes place (supposedly this is something that barrier free porn does as the question implies). While 100% barrier use, in theory, makes some sense as a response to these problems, when we think about what constitutes “well-being” for performers and what we really mean by “realistic,” things get royally fucking complicated.  Read the rest of Drew’s answer here.

I think condoms can be used in a variety of ways. Many companies have incorporated the use of barriers into their porn, and their porn is still hot and still sells.  Other companies have gone more stealth with condoms, not showing the application of them, but using them actually DURING the sex scenes.  I support safer sex usage, as many STIs (such as HPV) cannot be tested for unless someone is showing symptoms, so AIM tests don’t really protect everyone. I feel there are definitely ways to use condoms in adult movies that do not detract from the fantasy.

I’m completely against mandatory condoms in porn. The push is coming from some very anti-porn, not to mention anti-performer, people. They’re couching their push as “concern” for the health of the performers but are NOT LISTENING to the performer’s actual feelings on this topic. If a performer wants to use them, fine, but it can’t be mandatory. The state is broke. Who is going to pay for “condom inspectors” to go to sets each day? I thought so.

In heterosexual porn we have a very effective, voluntary, industry-wide testing standard that has reduced the incidence of HIV in performers to a rate of .017 percent (five cases in the past ten years), thanks to AIM Healthcare (aim-med.org). By contrast, in all of Los Angeles County there are an estimated 2,500 NEW cases of HIV transmission each year.Multiply that by ten years and we have an estimated 25,000 new HIV patients with which to contend, in LA County alone. These days it’s not uncommon to look behind the porno camera and see a woman calling the shots. Be it writing, directing, producing, etc. – ladies are taking over behind the scenes and creating a whole array of awesome movies, set from a female point of view.

While this estrogen insurgence into the porno process shows itself more readily nowadays, it’s far from a new concept. Women have held their places in porn (in the clothing on portion) for years, starting in the “Golden Age of Porn” – that period of time in the ‘70s and ‘80s when porn was just entering the mainstream.

We always love talking about ladies that represent in porn, but there is a super special reason we’re bringing it to the forefront today.

We have releasing Cecil Howard’s Scoundrels, for a limited run until July 22nd! And along with being the very first movie to win AVN’s Best Film Award, Scoundrels was actually written by a woman – Anne Randall.

According to the June 1983 edition of AVN (only the sixth edition!):

Thanks to Anne Randall’s magnificent script, Scoundrels gives us three-dimensional characters that rarely find their way into adult plots. This family is sensitive and very normal in their feelings; the abnormalities come from the unstable setting. Scoundrels takes serious themes (the kinds that Taboo and Roommates tried to tackle) one step further, showing that its subject can be erotic and dangerous at the same time. … Scoundrels classifies as thinking man’s porn.

Pretty hot, right?  It turns out Randall wrote and produced a whole host of Cecil Howard’s films during the 1980s, including Neon Nights and  Dangerous Stuff, which are two amazing movies.

Unfortunately Randall is out of the porno spotlight these days and there is pretty much nil about her anywhere out there.  Although that really is a disappointment, we still get to watch her brilliant screenplays come to life on the screen and get all hot ‘n’ bothered, so we aren’t complaining too much.  But because we aren’t able to go into much detail about Anne Randall, we figured we would take this opportunity to spend some time on some of the other amazing women of the time and their fabulous contributions to the porn industry.

Candida Royalle
Back in the mid ’70s Candida Royalle took work as an erotica actress while living in San Francisco during the sexual revolution.  After performing in about 25 films over the next five years,  Candida starting noticing the formulaic nature of the porns and how boring they were becoming – and the fact that no one was paying even the least bit of attention to what women wanted or how they really behaved in bed.  But instead of just rolling over and continuing to take it, Candida stopped performing in porn and got the backing to create her own erotic-focused movies!  And in 1984 Femme Productions was born!  Created from a female point-of-view and from a woman’s voice, Royalle’s movies not only helped women find a comfortable place to explore porn and sexuality – they started a movement of women taking positions behind the porno camera that is rapidly growing today.  Thanks Candida!  To hear it all in Candida’s own words, check out our interview with her!

Annie Sprinkle
When it comes to women who turned porn on it’s dirty, dirty head, Annie Sprinkle helps top the list.  Getting into the hardcore porno business in the early ’70s, Sprinkle started as a assistant, but quickly began doing movies instead.  After 50+ movies and 150 loops, Sprinkle finally hit it big with her 1981 film Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle,  a porn-umentary type movie about her adult experiences.  Along with bumping Annie to video fame, Deep Inside challenged people’s concepts of porn and women’s roles within the movies.  This was the first porn to show women as sexually aggressive, talk openly about female orgasm, talk about female ejaculation at all and really take a look at sex roles and power in sexuality.  She even speaks the camera directly!  In the early ’80s it was all a new concept – as well was taking a critical look at the industry.  Annie Sprinkle was one of the first voices from inside porn to address the negatives within the industry, while also examining the empowering aspects as well – a practice that is much more common place these days.  What a lady!  Check out her movies here!

Nina Hartley
Foraying into porn in 1984 while still working on her college degree, Nina Hartley brought something new and special to the industry – a sex positive, sexually charged excitement to explore!  After graduating with a degree in nursing, Hartley went into video full time, starting with her debut flick “Educating Nina,” which was just the beginning to her over 650 video fame – including her own highly popular educational series.  Just as at the start of her career, Hartley’s movies are still full to the hilt with sex positivity and female empowerment.  check out our interview with this amazing star.

And the list goes on and on – Marilyn Chambers, Seka, Linda Lovelace, Ginger Lynn, Georgina Spelvin… While porn has been considered an old boys club in the past, it’s obvious that it lies on the shoulders of a whole group of amazing women.  Definitely go check out a classic female voice while you have the chance – Cecil Howard’s Scoundrels!

What do our favorite porn performers think about the industry? Inquiring minds want to know! Well, we asked and they answered!  Welcome to our latest editor’s spotlight column, where we ask a bunch of stars the same question and see what kind of awesome answers grace our inbox.

This month is all about porn parodies.  Whether you love them or hate them, it’s time to face the music – they are trendier than any pop culture reference I could possibly make here (ok, how about trendier than the Rachel haircut on Friends – ha see, they pornofied that too!).  All of our favorite sitcoms of the last 30 years have been sucked and fucked within an inch of their commercial breaks – nothing is sacred!  So, with that in mind, we wanted to know what folks thought, inside the industry.

This month’s question:

In the last year, the porn industry seems to have exploded with parodies and spoofs of every television show/movie that has ever been popular – from Not The Bradys XXX to This Isn’t The Twilight Saga New Moon – The XXX Parody, and everything in between.  How do you feel about the parody trend? Do you think it benefits/hinders the industry? Why?

I’m not an expert on the mainstream industry that makes these kinds of films, but even if they’re just recycling old ideas and following the dollar signs until the fad tapers off – at least it’s an opportunity to bring humor, plot, and creativity onto a mainstream porn film set.  It’s starting to get pretty old, and it makes the “go-machine-go” financial outlook in porn valley look pretty transparent.

It is fucking brilliant! I have to admit I did one of those, My film Buckback Mountain *( Brokeback Mountain) and it is one of my biggest sellers. I think people feel comfortable buying something they already know the story line too..hahahaa!! Ok maybe with a bit of a twist. WOOF!!

I generally like parodies, as I like my feature porn to be on the lighter side. We’re not making “Gone With The Wind,” after all. Popular culture is full of ripe targets for parody and who hasn’t dreamed of watching our favorite performers have sex? Piracy and decades of over-production of sub-par material has hurt the industry much more than parodies have.

Porn parodies are really fun. I haven’t yet acted in one,  though there’s a parody which hasn’t been made yet that I’d really LOVE to be cast for because I’d be perfect to play…. a certain character.

In fact I’m so crazy over the idea that I can’t even name what it is because if someone makes it without casting me I think I’ll just about die!

P.S. No, I’m not telling you who it is. Not even if you guess!

I really don’t have any opinion on parody movies, other than I know that the studios have made many of them. I am working on starting a new trend in porn which mixes sex and art which we are calling “ARTCORE”. I believe this is the next level and the focus is on sexuality, originality and creativity.

I think the parody trend is really fun, and invites new customers to the porn market because those movies seem non-threatening, and like they have a plot as opposed to non-stop sex, they’re probably good “couple” movies.  We produce fetish porn — primarily BDSM — which is often super-serious and dark, so it’s great to occasionally do a DVD that’s funny.  (For instance, we have a lighthearted spanking series, “The Housewives’ Revenge,” just released part 3)  So we’re actually looking for a parody subject which would lend itself to a BDSM movie…

I think parodies benefit and hinder the industry. I know that contradicts itself but allow me to explain. I think they benefit the industry because the parodies are very non threatening so it allows a door to be opened to consumers who might not by porn. However at the same time they hinder the industry because they take the focus of porn off the sex. I believe that porn should be an expression of sex and sexual fantasies. The idea of making it silly doesn’t offend me, its the idea that the focus of the project isn’t to sexually arouse people. Either way, I have fun doing them and my main goal in porn is to have as much fun as possible. I will happily continue to do them as long as the craze continues because they allow me a chance to be my goofy self and still totally get my bang on at the same time

I think the parody trend is perfect for porn. It makes sexxxy movies more relateable to a larger audience and it makes certain fans of certain films or TV shows, like Twilight and Scrubs curious to check out porn. To compare and contrast the “real” movie with the other one. If it’s a way to get porn in front of couples, or just something that gets people talking, I’m all for it. Now, my question, has the smurfs been done yet? That could be the best “blue” movie of the year! (and a good bi flick to boot).

I’m of two minds about the parody trend… On one hand, business is on the slower side and the economy is in the bucket, therefore porn needs the excuse for content and people need things that make them laugh.  As a performer who starred in a XXX parody, I know that I had a blast and thought the end result was hilarious.  On the other hand, I think it is being milked to death, and possibly harming any parodies that could be funny and effective down the line.  I think a Star Trek parody is genius and accesses the sci-fi generation of porn-watchers and the real True Blood is so campy is is practically begging to be made into satire but Curb Your Enthusiasm?  I think we need to know when to say enough is enough and start finding other money-making enterprises like more original screenplays and material that showcases some of the decent porn writers out there…

I think the parody is brilliant, and I think it helps the industry a lot. Often times, people are worried about whether there will be a plot at all, or if it’ll be interesting. By at least loosely following some theme, people are more likely to check it out, and to find porn that they like.

I think humor in porn is a wonderful combination, and parody is an excellent tool to build minor plot, make light fun, or even raise politically significant questions.  XXX parodies can be a way to address the sexuality inherent in mainstream stories  when the topic is usually artificially avoided or glossed over.

Not recently having seen any mainstream porn parodies myself, I don’t know to what degree they take advantage of that, but I will mention that I’m planning a plot driven parody of a little known lesbian short film that should raise some interesting questions of gender politics in lesbian communities.  I’m looking forward to creating something that is hot and sexy with the added element of silliness.

People are always telling me they love comedy in sex and wish more porn directors made sex comedies. So I think this is a great trend. I love infusing my movies with humor, particularly the humor of everyday life. It can help people laugh at themselves and bring an air of lightness and fun in to a couples’ lovemaking. This is great for couples having issues or difficulty setting the mood. Laughing together is great medicine. Add that to sex and….YEA!

Until recently I just got a chuckle out of seeing what the next one would be, but then I found out from POPPORN that Vivid is launching Vivid-Superhero. Now I’m just jealous that only high-end straight porn is up to superhero parodies. That said, the first porn I was ever in was a parody of sorts, so I definitely see it as legitimate genre of porn, and something that will become (if it isn’t already) a staple of the industry.
