Late last week, I said goodbye to the nice weather, packed the hottest heels I have, grabbed my girlfriend and headed to Toronto for the annual adventure that is the Feminist Porn Awards.  Showcasing the best of the best in porn made for and by forward-thinking feminist folks of all genders (though the movies have to have a woman’s hand in the production, writing, directing, etc.), these awards are the Independent Spirit Awards to the Oscars that are the AVNs.  Basically, the Feminist Porn Awards are awesome, and lucky us, we get to sponsor!!  And as a sponsor, I get to hop a plane to the Great White North and help celebrate fabulous feminist porn with a ton of of favorite industry folks.  And that’s just what I did!!

After an hour or two of weather delays and a quick flight, we arrived in Toronto and headed to the fabulous Gladstone Hotel,  the original home of the FPAs (Feminist Porn Awards), as well as an amazingly cute hotel with artist-designed rooms.  We checked in, dropped our stuff in the room and decided to get lunch in the hotel cafe.  Walking down the stairs, I felt someone close behind us, and turning around, who do I see but Courtney Trouble!  Hurray!  We hadn’t seen each other since last year’s awards, and she had a little bit of time to kill before having to run off to shoot a scene, so she joined us for lunch.

Turns out she had been in town for a few days, filming what will be “Roulette Toronto,” which I obviously can’t wait to see, especially because I know I was in the same city at the same time it was being shot!  It also turns out that Trouble would be shooting a scene with April Flores and Dylan Ryan within the hour… at the hotel – AND that April was already there!  And as if on cue, April walked into the cafe.

Finally!  After a ton of time talking on email and a near miss at her plaster pussy art event in Philly, where I had to leave before she even arrived, I got to meet the wonderful April Flores!!  And this lady is seriously amazing – as well as just as warm and sweet as I had imagined that she would be!  April joined us for lunch and we got to chat for a few minutes before Dylan arrived with Tina Horn, and the whole lot whisked away upstairs to get their porno on!  In MY hotel… ok, well not MY hotel, but the hotel I was staying at.  When I was there!  Only one floor above me!!!  Anyway, the rest of the afternoon was a total blur of naps, unpacking and getting ready for the Provocative. Public/Porn: The Year’s Best in Feminist Film screening later that night.

Before the screening, we headed over to a pre-party at Good For Her, the fabulous sex positive toy shop that puts on the awards every year, where we got to meet up with Alison Lee, the amazing store manager that makes the FPAs happen!  And of course, my favorite right hand man!  At the shindig we also got to interview Courtney Trouble (which we will post soon!) and chat with sex educator/instructional porno all star Tristan Taormino and Nica Noelle, who I finally met for the first time as well!  It was a total day of firsts (it was also my first time at Good For Her!)!

What wasn’t a first for me was watching porn in a room full of people, which is what we did next!

Once we got to the theater, we settled in for an evening of super sexy smut, featuring scenes from Shine Louise Houston, April Flores, Tristan Taormino and Nice Noelle, as well as a awesome panel with the four  after the films.

I didn’t get many picture of this event because it was mostly the same shot over and over again, but I did record this quick video of Shine discussing her featured film,’ Crash Pad 35: Mickey Mod & Shawn.’

I also fiiiinally got to meet Shine!  Basically, the night was fabulous and we headed back to the hotel to pass out from a crazy day of travel. We wanted to make sure were were nice and rested to celebrate the debauchery of to the Feminist Porn Awards the next evening!

Can I just say how excited I am that we have a new addition for Good Dyke Porn! After taking an early flight into Toronto on Friday morning, I met up with Alison Lee (from Good for Her) and NoFauxxx.com‘s Courtney Trouble for lunch and had such fun chatting all about queer porn and the upcoming awards later that evening.  Total shoutouts to these fabulous ladies who rock the porn/sex/sexuality world with amazing style.  Afterwards Trouble and I hit a vintage/screen printing shop nearby before I headed back to my room and took a much needed nap.  Who wants to be exhausted at a late night event with a bunch of awesome porn folks?  Not me!

I was invited to the pre-awards VIP party at the Berkley Church (where the awards were held – yep, in a church!) so I glammed up and headed over to the venue a little early to get a chance to meet everyone before the actual ceremony started.  That turned out to be a great idea, because there weren’t a ton of people at the VIP party, so it was easy to make my way over to people and introduce myself.  As it turns out, most of the San Francisco queer porn circle was nominated for Feminist Porn Awards, so a bunch of them headed north to attend.  I hung out with the amazingly awesome Jiz Lee, Syd Blakovich, Madison Young and Dylan Ryan, along with Courtney Trouble and I snagged a seat next to Trannywood’s Ian Sparks.

Here are of a few of the winners that I remember offhand (or have pictures of), but here is the entire list of 2009 FPA winners to fill in the gaps.

Madison Young started out the night by nabbing the Hottest Kink Movie award for Perversions of Lesbian Lust Vol.1.

Crash Pad Series 2 – Unlocked (this scene) won for Steamiest Trans Scene, which I totally agree with.  Not only is it extremely hot, it’s one of the only transwoman movies I’ve ever seen that isn’t “chick with a dick” shemale porn.  Plus it’s got Michelle Aston, and we know how I feel about her.  So Good!

What I remember next is Mini Balfour of Cleopatra Productions winning both Most Sensual Softcore & Golden Beaver Award for Canadian Content for Man of My Dreams.

This year’s Most Deliciously Diverse Cast honor went to NoFauxxx’s Courtey Trouble for her first full length porno, Roulette.  Yay diversity!  Thanks Trouble!

The very suprised and very humbled Dylan Ryan took home the 2009 female Heartthrob of the Year.

Then I presented the Indie Porn Pioneer Award (thanks to Ian Sparks for taking the picture!)

Which went to…..  Madison Young!!

Obviously I took this picture later in the night, but I thought it was the most fitting for the win!

And finally, the last award of the night, the Movie of the Year went to… drumroll… Shine Louise Houston’s Champion! While unfortuantely Shine wasn’t there, all the other SF Queers involved (aka all of them) hit the stage in celebration.

Just a reminder that the always amazing Feminist Porn Awards are tonight!  The 4th Annual awards created by Good For Her, a fabulous Canadian sex toy/book/dvd store, will be in Toronto, ON at the Berkley Church (315 Queen St.) at 9pm.  As you read this, I am actually in Toronto, biding my time until the show tonight.  Not only am I super excited for the FPA show, I actually get to present an award!!!  Woohoo!  Hopefully I get to take a bunch of pictures and meet a ton of awesome people.  Plus there is a movie veiwing party on Saturday night!  I’ll blog more about it on Tuesday.

Finally, it’s Friday.  I’ve been waiting for this day all week.  I’m actually in Toronto right now, hanging out until the Feminist Porn Awards tonight!  Woohoo!  In honor of being in the awesomeness that is Canada, I thought I’d pick a Canadian band for this week’s mixtape.  The Cliks!

While I had heard of this Toronto-based band from friends, I never really listened to them or anything until we were at Dinah Shore a few weeks back and the lead singer, Lucas Silveira, came on stage and dueted with Margaret Cho.  One listen to his voice and I was totally sold.
