I was majorly excited to review the Touche’ Bona Dea. When the sun set and the timing was right, I lathered her up and pushed the first bead right into my ass. Not sure what I was thinking, apparently not enough lube AT ALL and it hurt like hell to try and get just the first bead out. In other words, don’t do what I did.

I have to admit that before the Liberace came into my hands, I firmly placed myself in the ‘virginal but curious’ category of anal play. I ran into a little problem with this toy’s beady nature however, as each bead-like portion has a beginning, a middle, and an end – then there’s another beginning after that. I found it easy to get a little stuck in between each rise. Luckily I quickly figured out that these little pauses offered some other fun opportunities, twisting and swirling the toy from this position treated me to all kinds of new sensations and helped me relax and loosen up for the next level.

I think I’ll be hanging onto this little anal dandy for a bit longer, but I probably won’t use it again until I’ve got a new partner to play with. I was super surprised when I got the Ophoria Rapture #5 anal probe in the mail. The Shunga Massage Candle I had requested was on back order, so Eden Fantasys decided to send me off a big butt plug instead. Once I got over my disappointment about not being able to sucker a massage out of my girlfriend (in the name of “working from home,” of course), I quickly warmed up to the idea that I had a fancy new silicone butt toy to play with! What’s better than a massage? Fucking, that’s what!

The Ophoria Rapture #5 is a pretty big hunk o’ silicone. At 7” long (5 ¾” insertable) and 1 ½” at the thickest point, this hefty anal probe is not for the butt play first timer. The Rapture #5 is made of five gradually increasing bulbs that are one on top another, with a nice big loop handle at the end. The velvety bulbs go from smallish to big fairly fast and unlike other probes and anal beads I’ve tried, the Rapture #5 doesn’t have much of as indented space between the bulbs.

While some people might not enjoy the lack of space, I thought that it made the graduation to the next sized bulb go smoother. Because the bulbs sizes do cover a pretty big range, it can be a bit tedious to go from one to the next, and I think more space between the bulbs would make it harder.

I also really liked the Rapture’s design because it made the toy a lot sturdier and easier to pull in and out of your butt. The loop and design even allow for one finger control, which is definitely helpful if you’d like to keep your other nine fingers busy as well. Also, the Rapture is 6.4 oz, which means it feels weighty without actually being heavy – basically the perfect weight. You can tell a lot of thought went into the creation of this awesome toy.

Ophoria Rapture #5 can also be used vaginally. It was a really different sensation in my vag than it was in my butt, but definitely felt good. It’s hard to describe the differences, but vaginally I really enjoyed the increasing girth and the shape of the toy. The handle came in handy for thrusting as well.

Because it’s made of silicone, Rapture #5 is both hypoallergenic (phthalate free) and super easy to clean, as well as really good quality. Being a butt toy, I really like that Rapture #5 can be sterilized. I makes me happy to know that my anal toys are super clean before I put them away. I’m not going to say I love the name anal probe – it makes me feel like I’ve been abducted by aliens – but really, that’s my only complaint about the Ophporia Rapture #5. Well, that and it won’t help me woo a massage.

Earlier this month I ran a workshop on anal play for a local toy shop.  Since the class turned out so great and people had so many great questions, I decided to share my handout with our HM4Her readers to make sure that you guys are getting the best of the best when it comes to sex education.  There was so much info that I had to break it into two parts (check out Intro to Anal Play, Part 1)! What what in the butt, let’s get to it!

In the first section I covered all the basics of why people have anal sex, the fears surrounding anal play, the expectations involved with anal sex and all of the basic anatomy of the butt.  Now we get to talk about safety, prep, techniques and toys – all the super sexy good stuff!

Safety Basics

- Anal sex should not hurt. If it hurts, you are doing something wrong.

- Lube, Lube Lube, Lube, Lube! When it comes to butts, you can never use enough lube! Your ass does not self lubricate (like a vagina) so lube is super, extra important. For anal sex, thicker lubes are great. Your best bet is either silicone or water-based lube (as oil-based lubes can weaken condoms, if you are using them), but remember that you cannot use silicone lube with silicone toys. Also remember to add more lube frequently. If you think you’re using too much lube, add some more.

- Whatever you put up your butt must have a flared base that is bigger than the object, keeping it from going all the way in and getting stuck in your rectum. It is no fun and usually ends with a trip to the ER to get whatever it is extracted.

- Never go from the anus to the vagina or mouth without first washing off the toy, penis, finger, what have you. You can go from vag/mouth to butt, but the other way can lead to all sorts of nasty infections that you don’t want.

- Patience! Start slow and keep communication open throughout the experience. Make sure the person attached to the ass is doing alright and feeling good.

- Desensitizing lubes and gels that have a numbing effect (like Anal Ease) aren’t the answer to pain free anal sex and they can actually cause more injury. What you can’t feel can end up hurting you. Plus, if you can’t feel anything, what about your pleasure? Pleasure is the point.

- Keep your fingernails short and clean with smooth edges. The butt has delicate tissues that don’t like to be scratched or torn. If you want to finger an ass and also maintain your mani, try wearing latex gloves. They aren’t just for doctors! Also, if you do have long nails that you want to keep, put a cotton ball in the fingertip of each glove and get to business.

Preparation for Anal Play

- Make sure you are turned on. Get yourself in the mood and get comfortable. Maybe even have an orgasm first to relax and get your blood pumping!

- Take lots of deep breaths! Play some calming music to get relaxed. Anything that gets you comfortable.

- Clench and release your sphincter muscles a few times to get to know your body and how it feels. Try doing it fast and slow to see how it feels.

- Explore yourself. Get to know what’s back there! Start by feeling around the outside of your anus with your finger and when you’re ready, try inserting a well-lubed finger inside your anus.

- Take advantage of shower time and explore while you are nice and soapy.

- Speaking of soap. If you are nervous about dealing with feces, go to the bathroom prior to anal play to clear out anything in your bowels. You can also shower first and insert a soapy finger into your anus to get rid of anything additional. Some people prefer to do an enema before anal sex, but it is not a necessity. You/your partner can also wear a latex glove and/or condom to make clean up a snap.

Techniques & Tips

- Start with a butt massage to get your partner in the mood and relaxed. Begin with kneading the cheeks and running your fingers along the crack before you even reach for the butt hole.

- When you do get to the butt hole, spend some time on the outside before heading straight in. Trace little circles around the opening to the anus with a well-lubed finger. Press the puckered opening (like you would a doorbell) without inserting your finger. Ask your partner (or you, whoever’s ass is being played with) to clench and relax their sphincter muscles while you play with their anus.

- Use your fingertips to press along the butt crack, including the anus.

-Lube up your thumbs and press the pads of them against the anus, switching off in a circular motion – kind of like you are twiddling your thumbs slowly.

-Don’t forget about the genitals too! Just because you are having fun in the back, you should still remember about the vagina, clit, penis, testicles, breasts, kissing , etc. Have your partner play with their own genitals while you have fun exploring their butt!

-When you are ready to go into the anus, have your partner breathe deeply a few times and the last time they exhale, insert your index finger (well-lubed!) into their anus to the first knuckle. Go slowly and be sure to ask your partner if they are ok, if they want you to slow down, go faster, add fingers, etc.

- Once your finger/fingers are inside your partner’s butt, don’t just start thrusting in and out. Stay still for a little bit to get them accustom to the feeling. Have them clench and release a few times to see how they are enjoying it.

-Some people really like when you explore them by pressing your fingers along the inside walls when you are inside their ass. Try up, down, left and right. Go slow and don’t push too hard.

-Once they get comfortable with your fingers and are having fun, maybe incorporate a toy into the experience. A butt plug is always fun because it is designed to stay put while you have fun with other parts of their body (just wash your hands/take of gloves).

- Anal sex can be done in just about any position that vaginal sex can be done. Some people really enjoy the access that they have with doggy style (entering the ass from behind while the recipient is on their knees, bent over), while other people prefer the “bottom” to be on “top,” as they can control the speed and depth of the penetration better with that position. You can also try missionary, spooning, standing, legs over the head, whatever! As you as you can reach the butt you need!

- Remember, the first few inches of the butt are the most sensitive, so you don’t need to go in super far to have a pleasurable experience.

-Don’t forget about the G-Spot and P-Spot, which are both accessible from the anus.

Back before I started reviewing sex toys, I would have never imaged that I’d have so many things in my house specifically designed to go up my butt. That being said, no matter how many toys (and fingers) have been up my butt, I pretty much still consider myself a beginner when it comes to the back door. Well, maybe not a beginner beginner, but definitely not an old pro or anything.

Being beginner-ish with the butt, I really like toys that are graduated and let me work my way from small to big at my own pace instead of just starting out with a big toy. I would say that I am a pretty sexually adventurous person. I like to try new things. Even if I’m not sure what the outcome will be, I’m usually pretty game to at least give it one wholehearted go. And seeing as I am a sex toy reviewer, I have a ton of toys – from a 24 ounce steel barbell to a trio of finger vibes plugged into a battery operated power pack strapped to your wrist. Let’s just say my cup runneth over. But one thing I was really lacking was butt specific toys. Deciding that’s where I wanted to fill my gap, so to speak, I flipped to the anal toy page and picked the first interesting thing I found – 100% silicone anal beads. Two weeks later Flexi Felix landed on my desk.

To be perfectly honest, even though I had previously seen pictures of Flexi Felix before considering it for my own personal ass, I was surprised how much it looked like a kid’s teething toy. And yes, I know how gross that association is when, in fact, you shove this toy up your ass. Shaped like a hot pink Caterpillar with big eyes that double as finger handles and a long, snake-like body, Felix is perfectly nubbed with size increasing bumps. And a big smile – can’t forget that. I’m not usually one to go for a toy with an animal face, mostly because they freak me out a little bit, but I gave in for this one because it’s made of Fun Factory’s amazingly velvetly 100% silicone and the continuous chain of “beads” appealed to me more than beads on a string. I would have gone with Fun Factory’s Bendybeads, but another reviewer beat me to the punch.

Personification (or animalification) aside, Flexi Felix ended up being a good set of anal beads – used by someone that, as it turns out, doesn’t really enjoy anal beads. You learn new things about yourself all the time.

While I realized early on in my anal bead adventure that they weren’t really for me, I will say that Felix is super smooth and silky and easy to insert. The chain starts with smaller beads which get bigger as you get closer to the Caterpillar face handle. And speaking of the handle, it turned out to fit my fingers perfectly and was great to have for pushing and pulling the beads in and out. The silicone parts between the beads are fairly thin and keep the whole toy a little on the floppy side for me. At times it was difficult to maneuver the beads because the whole chain would squirm around as I moved it, but I mostly countered that by abandoning the handle and just pushing and pulling directly on the bead needing to move. Though, paired with lots of lube on both the toy and my hands, this proved to be a slippery situation.

All in all, great phthalate-free material, super easy clean up and sterilization, and Fun Factory’s signature quality all make this toy a great choice if you’re in the market for anal beads. And though I now know I may not belong to that group of consumers, I’m glad I picked up something different and expanded my sex toy horizons. Plus, just because I don’t like anal beads doesn’t mean my partner won’t. Maybe Felix will make it to the top of my toy chest after all… and maybe you’ll get an update… if you’re up for an adventure.
