Happy Friday to all! This week has felt exceptionally long and I know we are all ready for the weekend. One total bright spot during the week was the announcement that hip-hop queens SALT-N-PEPA have joined the Dinah Shore 2010 line-up!! How awesome is that!?!?!
So in honor of how super excited we are to see these spicy ladies of rap, here is a classic throwback that we are crossing our fingers to hear live. I think this gem may have graced the mixtape rewind before, but it’s totally worth a repeat performance.
So I’ve been obsessed with this band for like the last two weeks but the last time I looked I couldn’t buy the freaking album in this country. It’s killing me, but maybe things have changed since I checked last weekend. Until then, I have the band’s myspace page bookmarked so I can stream them over and over again.

Happy Friday! With the holidays falling on two consecutive Fridays, our weekly Mixtape Rewind got a little bit lost in the fray. But here in 2010 we are back and better than ever!

So, today marks the 8th night of Hanukkah and the last Friday before Christmas, so I thought it would be appropriate for today’s Mixtape Rewind to celebrate both holidays in some bizarro way. While the obvious answer would be to post two videos, one for each holiday, I thought this wackadoo song by Bob Dylan might just do the trick.
In what is definitely the most catchy (or annoying) song of the season, Dylan – a jew who converted to Christianity in the 70s only to find his way back to the fold in the 90s – thoughtfully helps people who aren’t familiar with Santa to identify him. He also, most appropriately, provides the listener with a refresher course on the presidents of the United States since the mid-fifties. Nothing gets me in the Christmas mood like revisiting the Eisenhower administration.

Happy Friday to all! I was expecting this week to go super slow, but it really seemed to just fly by at warped speed and deliver us back at Friday once again. Not that I’m complaining! There is lots to be done this weekend on the holiday gift crafting front and I am ready to fire up my sewing machine! And obviously I blast music over the sweet hum of productivity.
This weekend I plan to hum along to this Alicia Keys song I’ve recently discovered and quickly become obsessed with. There is something about it that’s totally early ’90s to me, in a young Whitney Houston way. Anyway, it’s awesome and you should watch. Plus, Alicia randomly saves a puppy from death in the video… and who doesn’t love a puppy?
