The 2009 AVN Award Nominees were announced recently and I thought it was a good chance to highlight some great movies that came out in the past year.
For those of you who don’t know, the AVN Awards are basically the Oscars of Adult. Take the red carpet glamor and long winded speeches of Hollywood’s big night – add a healthy does of porn – and you’ve got the industry’s biggest night of the year.
While the evening belongs to the big money studios, they also pay homage to some smaller studios and films – which tend to be the movies I prefer. So, in no particular order, here are my top five 2009 AVN Award nominees.

The Girl Sessions: Nominated for the 2009 AVN Award for Best Amateur Release, The Girl Sessions is probably my favorite AbbyWinters release of last year. I love Chloe B., who appears in 6/9 scenes, and the fun vibe of the entire film. There’s lots of giggling and kissing before the girls get down and dirty, which always sets the mood for me! It’s been a big year for these Aussie girls and I wouldn’t be surprised if they cap it off with a win. |

Not Another Porn Movie: We’re kind of in love with Joanna Angel and this movie is my favorite spoof of the year. Any porn fan will appreciate the way Angel mocks the industry that has made her a superstar. They take a crack at the industry’s attempt at plot, porno soundtracks and low production values in five scenes packed full of amazing sex! If you’ve ever rolled your eyes as a pizza dude asks who ordered a large sausage, you’ll love this funny flick. |

Even More Bang For Your Buck 2 : This one was nominated for Best Transsexual Release and I hope to Christ it wins. Buck was the first F2M performer to ever be named Transsexual Performer of the Year back in 2007. He’s one hot queer who deserves a truckload of awards for turning the industry on its head with his amazing trannie porn. |

Roller Dollz: Roller Derby is all the rage and the awards committee apparently took notice of this feature, which is nominated for seven awards. Alektra Blue is amazing in this one and the story is actually worth watching, if you can stand to wait for the next hot sex scene. This one is packed full of big stars and intense fucking and one of the best Alt titles of the year. |

Boundaries: I was really happy to see Triangle Films’ Boundaries was nominated for Best All-Girl Series this year. They’re a pretty new studio and one of few “lesbian” studios that has actual lesbians running it! I know, it’s crazy! The Boundaries series is a little more edgy than a lot of their films, which is one of the reasons I think it’s great. |
