Last week we celebrated the nominations for 2010′s Oscars of porn, the AVN Awards.  Since then, we’ve been all bouncy and excited for the fine folks that made the list this year, and apparently we are not the only ones.  People have been blogging up a storm since the announcement, including the nominees themselves.  So, here’s a little insider scoop of the AVN nominations – straight from the horse’s mouth!




Jiz Lee wrote up a delightfully thanks-filled piece about both her nomination for “Best New Web Starlet” and Pink and White’s  “Best Video Feature” for Champion: Love Hurts and even included us on the list!  *Blush!*

If an explicit film with a plot about a female fighter who faces homophobia/gender discrimination as a major plot-line can make it into the running of what many call “The Oscars” of adult movies — add it it that the majority of the cast and crew are queer/trans & gender-non-conforming/people of color, and that it was produced with less than half the budget of the other videos in this category — then Holy Shit that’s better than Hollywood….

…As a genderqueer I never expected to be listed as a “starlet”. I mean, I’m SO very different than the other new web stars on AVN’s nominations list. Like, I’m the only one packing! But I’ll take this as an opportunity to open any doors in gender and sexuality — whether it’s a cisgender woman who wishes she didn’t have to shave her legs/armpits/lovely asshole to be sexy, or whether it’s a trans or gender-variant perv who thinks there may be a chance at stardom in the mainstream. There is opportunity out there for queer visibility and expanding acceptance at who we are and how we love.

Joanna Angel posted a picture-tastic blog post about the 18(!!!!!) nominations that both she and the Burning Angel folks received.  Eighteen!  Seriously! And while it seems like Joanna isn’t always sure how or why she was nominated in some categories, she is genuinely grateful to be in the running.

This is the second year in a row I am nominated for best POV scene. It is strange because they are most definitely my least favorite type of scenes to do. It’s kind of like doing a workout on a cock. Basically a guy lays down with a camera and you gotta bounce up and down- so the guy can’t really get too into it because if he does he will break the camera and the girl has to do all the work. Usually to keep me excited James has to put the camera down, then fuck me like crazy… then hold the camera again and resume so I can attempt to have the same energy. Doing POV scenes really feels more like “work” than any other scene. Anyways, I am really glad that me and Jessie were nominated- we bounce on cock pretty well!…

…Hell yeah! I have no idea how I wound up with a nomination in this category (BEST INTERRACIAL RELEASE) along with Lexington Steele but I’m just glad to be in it.

Sexy man Tyler Knight joined in the blogging fun as well, cheering on Adam and Eve’s super multi-nominated feature, The 8th Day.

The two awards that directly affect me are the Best Supporting Actor (strange because I was the only male actor–who could have been the lead actor?) and Best Group Sex Scene (again). Cool, I have a reason to play poker in Vegas. I’ll use my award as a card protector.

It’s always nice to be recognized amongst your peers for hard work and excellence. Though I doubt I will take home any trophies come January, I am extremely honored for these nominations I’ve picked up for the 2010 AVNs.

Courtney Trouble‘s Nofauxx Roulette was nominated for Best Music Soundtrack, which is so true if you see the movie.  Courtney thinks so too…

You see… I’m a big, big fan of underground, indie, queer-made music – and the struggles for visibility and good exposure for indie music and indie porn, especially in the queer world, are hard, and it’s a very similar world working in both. I’ve been in four bands, including a solo project and a band with my wife. I’ve been on tour five times with Nomy Lamm, Nicky Click, Jenna Riot, and my wife’s old band Forever – it’s a lot like traveling to different places to shoot Roulette.

The music in Roulette, Roulette Dirty South, and Roulette Berlin all really reflect that traveling road show kind of feeling. Sleeping on your friend’s floor, crashing at a lover’s house after the show, leaving your favorite peice of clothing somewhere on the road, sweat dripping down your tits on the road to the next city.
