20 Questions With Tina Tyler

“Thinking man’s porn star” turned director

Tina Tyler, former performer turned director, works for Mr. Hottness himself, Lexington Steele‘s production company Mercenary Pictures. As a performer, she was nominated for multiple AVN awards, winning the 2003 AVN Award for Best Non-Sex Performance for The Ozporns. Now she is executive liaison and director for Mercenary Pictures, one of the hottest interracial studios – and when I say “hottest”, I’m actually referring to the men, the sex, and the men, and the women and the men (in case that wasn’t clear… they use some pretty hot guys). 1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
On September 12, 1992 I did my first on camera scene and never looked back. My progression to porn was somewhat stereotypical, stripper, to magazine model to porn actress to porn director.

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
I’m not sure, but I can guarantee I wouldn’t be having as much fun doing it.

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
Never do anything you don’t truly enjoy and don’t be afraid to say no.

4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
Okay so it’s not funny ha ha, but funny peculiar: I had a guy not show up to the set of Handyman 6 and found out the next day it was because he had died that morning of a heart attack brought on by over use of steroids. Best excuse ever, but sad because it was true.

5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in industry?
That we’re stupid, easy and coerced into the business. I chose this way of life and couldn’t be happier with my choice. I truly love what I do. As for the easy part, speaking for myself (being celibate for the past year), I’m harder to get into than Fort Knox lately.

6. What did you do today?
Shot the first scene of Super Whores 12.

7. What would you rather have done today?
Besides travelling to the South of France on a private jet? Absolutely nothing.

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
Wow you really do like your hypotheticals don’t you? Since I no longer perform, that makes it tougher to answer. But who would I hire to watch? Terry Crews in a Handyman scene, all oiled up!

9. Who is your favorite adult performer?
That’s a tough one. I’ve been a fan of porn since my teens, so I’d like to answer that with old school and new school answers if I may:
Old School Female- Annette Haven (with Vanessa Del Rio a very close second)

New School Female- Lauren Vaughn
New School Male- Lexington Steele (and not just because he’s my boss)

10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
Buy enough gas to get to work… and probably a pack of cigarettes.

11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
Well, something would have to change before that happened… the law forbidding persons not born here to run for president (I’m Canadian). But hypothetically, if I were in charge the first thing I’d change is the healthcare system. It would be socialized medical as far as the eye could see on day two of my term.

12. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
There are way too many embarrassing moments to pick just one. Because I’m very opinionated, I have a tendency to stick my foot in my mouth frequently. Funny thing is, I’ve rarely been chastized for it. I think people really do appreciate honesty, even if it’s not what they want to hear.

13. Which is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
As an actress, definitely the Devil in Miss Jones 6. I played the devil and got to chew up the scenery, which is always fun. As a director, the Handyman series.

14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
The power to make money appear in large sums whenever necessary… oh and the power to create world peace

15. Meat or veggie?
Meat definately… that goes for food too.

16. What is your favorite book?
American Tabloid by James Ellroy

17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who love to waste my time.

18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Don’t be afraid or ashamed of your sexuality. The sooner you embrace it, the better sex will become. Oh and don’t be afraid to communicate your needs and fantasies with your partner.

19. What is your favorite adult movie?
The Handyman series. I know, I directed it, but the honest truth is it wouldn’t exist if I didn’t decide to make something I wasn’t seeing and wanted to see. Handyman gives women a product that they don’t have to watch with their man… and porn that doesn’t have all those pesky breasts and vaginas in the way. What’s hotter than a great looking guy talking directly to you while he pleasures himself?

20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
I’ve been brutally open and honest about my life, I’m not sure there is anything… and if there is, there’s a reason I’ve never told anyone.
