By glancing through the titles, you may not believe a woman is the one behind Marie Madison Media (despite the name), but Marie Madison not only stars but directs and produces all of it. With some titles like “Forced Feedings”, it’s not the typical content we feature, so we gave her our questions for insight into someone who does it all, however she wants!
1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
I got started in 2001 when I was asked by a small amateur internet site to do a movie for them. It was a small Interview / POV thing. I’d always wanted to try an amateur film, so I figured what the heck. I had such a good time, that I wanted to do more, but I also knew that I wanted to do films my way, and I knew enough about business that I knew I wanted to own my own properties, so I got together with some of my friends and started making little POV movies for myself. After about a year, that original internet company went bankrupt and sold me back the masters to that first film. Now, I’m lucky enough to own everything.
2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
After the last couple of years I’ve had, I’d probably go to law school and become a vicious venom spitting lawyer.
3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
The best thing I’ve learned is patience. Doing things right often takes forever, but these films will last forever, so the payoff is worth it. The best advice from a fellow performer came from Jesse Jane who said “Don’t let the ‘fads’ pressure you into doing something that’s not ‘you’. Do what YOU enjoy, and it will be real, and you’ll find your audience.”. She’s brilliant. The best business advice I ever got was from Stan Gibell of HotMovies when he said “There’s this thing coming called ‘Digital Distribution’ and you should really think about getting on board.” He helped me start getting my stuff online, and now six years later, almost my entire income comes from online delivery – rather than how it used to be, from DVD. I’m finally ahead of the curve, instead of behind it.
4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
The funniest thing that’s ever happened was during the filming of “Nice In The Ass 2” with Kami Andrews. It was a 2 on 2 all anal scene, so Kami and I were taking care of enemas and whatnot… and Kami accidentally had an ‘accident’ on my living room floor. She was a little embarrassed, until my shooter Alan Steed said “That’s why I don’t own a dog…” and that broke the weirdness and everyone cracked up. We joked about that for a year.
5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in industry?
Without question, it’s that all woman in the industry are stupid whores. Or at the very least, just pretty faces on the box without any real creative input or control. Just talk to Janine for one second, or watch Jesse Jane work off camera. I got to work next to Jesse at a film festival last year, and I’ll tell you what… talk about creative. She single handedly taught me how to do a live interview, and I’ve been in the industry a couple years longer than she has. There’s a common misconception that female directors don’t actually direct. While I’m sure it happens, the woman directors I know – Mason, Kami, Lizzy over at Extreme, all these girls are the real thing, and I can tell you directing is hard work. Whether you’re filming a horror movie or a porn, it’s still a film and making a film takes a huge cooperative effort from a lot of people all looking to the director for their vision. I respect anyone who does it, and there are as many truly talented woman directors as there are men, and I like to think the audience can tell the difference between a good film and a bad one – regardless of which gender directs it.
6. What did you do today?
Got up at 8:00 a.m., got my kid off to school. I had coffee and cigarettes while I checked my e-mail and MySpace account. I usually shoot in the afternoon, but not today.
7. What would you rather have done today?
I would have rather stayed in bed and got laid!
8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
I’d want to do a threesome with “Poolhall Junkies” star Mars Callahan and former porn star Keli Richards. I’d want Alfred Hitchcock to direct it and The Chemical Brothers to score it. I’d want Joone to run second unit, and Christopher Walken would have to have a cameo in there somewhere.
9. Who is your favorite adult performer?
Right now, Jenna Haze.
10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
I’d buy a fifteen and a Whopper Jr. from BK.
11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
I’d immediately put our guns down and bring every one of our troops home, and they’d bring their gear back with them. It would be Americans’ responsibility to guard America. All of us. Then I’d take that six billion dollars we’re not spending on defense and I’d give it to the scientists and have them build us a car that runs on water. They’ll have it in a year. Then I’ll legalize marijuana, shut down domestic relations and take the next six months off to shoot a movie.
12. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
I peed my pants in a grocery store once. That was mortifying.
13. Which is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
“Fury” for GMD Films, then “Indiscretions” with Kami Andrews.
14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
Freeze Time.
15. Meat or veggie?
Meat
16. What is your favorite book?
“Choke” by Chuck Plahniuk. All time favorite.
17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who turn too slowly in front of you when you’re driving.
18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Give more Blowjobs. The benefits for both are amazing. I’m a feminist damn it, and I’ll suck a dick if I want to.
19. What is your favorite adult movie?
“Pirates”
20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
Ahhhh… almost got me there. That one thing is going to die with me.
Thanks!
