20 Questions with Jiz Lee

Jiz Lee is a San Francisco queer who believes that porn and radical sex is activism. Particularly for people of marginalized communities, where creating their own images and media representation is critical. As a genderqueer performer, Jiz has worked with queer porn companies such as Pink & White Productions, Madison Bound Productions, and No Fauxxx, and has been featured in Logo’s Lesbian Sex and Sexuality and on Behind Kink. Jiz’s first porno scene with real life partner Shawn (aka Syd Blakovich) in The Crash Pad was awarded Hottest Dyke Sex Scene by the Feminist Porn Awards.

Hir turn ons include: authentic enthusiastic fun sex, androgyny and genderfuck, fisting, ejaculation, gapers, switches, dorks, techies, librarians, kinky experimentation, and pleasure activists.

PS. I may have made one of those up.

1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
It was a pick up line my partner (Syd Blakovich aka Shawn) used when we first met in 2005. Needless to say, it worked.

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
I do lots of other things. My regular 9-5 is in web production, and I have a number of side projects that include web design and online marketing. I also advocate for arts and technology through a number of non-profit organizations including CounterPULSE Theater, where I am the Board President.

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
Do what you love.

4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
Shine Louise Houston has the best laugh on the planet. Something can happen, and it doesn’t even have to really be that funny. But if Shine starts laughing (and by laughing I mean snorting) then it’s hilarious. Every time.

5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in industry?
The stereotype that women don’t have sexual agency. IE: they’re doing because their boyfriend/manager wants them to, because they just need the money, or because they don’t know any better. It also applies to women of color and transwomen, and the idea is particularly difficult for me to hear when it comes from anti-porn women.

6. What did you do today?
I started my period.

7. What would you rather have done today?
A hot tub sounds pretty appealing right now. So do Margaritas.

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
If you would have asked me this a year ago I would have said “Belladonna” as if it were something that could only happen in a miraculous ’20 questions’ kind of way. However I recently met her and it looks like my dream might come true! So, I still answer: Belladonna, all the way baby!

9. Who is your favorite adult performer?
Belladonna and a BUNCH of people. I’d loved working with Syd Blakovich and Dallas (both real life lovers), and Dylan Ryan, Lorelei Lee, Trouble Royale, Madison Young, Wil Thrustwell & Papi Coxxx. I also love Sasha Grey, Kimberly Kane and Princess Donna, and recently I had the pleasure of working side-by-side of Mark Davis and his choking style is *amazing*.

10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
I want to say something smart and strategic but I’d probably freak out and spend it on something frivolous in the process. In this economy… knock on wood.

11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
Mandatory classes on gender theory and sex ed in high school, and ethnic studies requirements for college (especially for people in business and marketing fields).

12. What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?
I introduced myself to someone I had already slept with. …I know…

13. Which is your favorite project you’ve worked on?
Superfreak was pretty fun — I got to get girled up for it, and playing with the kitchen sink was a blast.

14. If you could have one superpower what would it be?
A freeze-ray that stops time. I crave more time in my life.

15. Meat or veggie?
Both!

16. What is your favorite book?
At the moment my favorite book is Opening Up: Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships by Tristan Taormino. I even bought 6 copies; one for myself, and for my lovers and friends.

17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
WEN POEPLE WRIT N ALL CAPS W BAD SPELING. OHDEARGODDMAKE IT STOP/

18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
I don’t have advice that is specific to ‘women’. Advice for all people would be to take some classes and read some books. Sex education is life-long.

19. What is your favorite adult movie?
CHAMPION: Love Hurts. I particularly love to watch Shawn and Dallas’s scene because I know what it’s like to be intimate with both of them, both to feel them, and experience them touching me. Being able to watch both angles and perspectives turns me on like no other. I love watching my lovers in porn.

20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
Sometimes I throw used condoms in the recycling bin because I’m lazy, but then I worry someone has to pick them out when they sort the materials, and that makes me feel really guilty.
