Long before there was a marketplace of women making dirty movies for women, there was Candida Royalle. Just about 25 years ago, Royalle moved from in front of the camera to behind the lens and began creating porn she was interested in watching with her studio, Candida Royalle’s Femme. Considered a rock star by lady porn lovers (including us HM4Her gals), Candida was one of the first to start releasing movies made from a woman’s voice and created with women viewers in mind. Without her vision and perseverance, ‘for women, by women’ porn might never have taken off like it has, and we might not even exist. So thanks, Candida!
And because Candida was a pioneer of the field and fought on the forefront of female porn, the woman has a lot of wonderful memories and stories! So to let us take a glimpse of the past and experience all Candida has to say, we’ve broken her interview into four parts, complete with some of her personal pictures from other the years!

16. What is your favorite book?
I fell back in love with fiction a few years ago, and every time I read a book I love it becomes my new ‘favorite book’. I loved “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter” which I bought totally on a whim at the airport for an easy read; the next one I really loved was “The Secret Life of Bees” – I LOVED the feel and imagery of that book. If you’ve only seen the movie you must read the book. It’s far richer and more satisfying. And most recently, Toni Morrison’s “Love”, which my sister, who’s so well read, gave me.
17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
At the risk of sounding like a one-track record, I’d have to say it’s the arrogance of people who believe animals were put on earth for our use. Being “on top of the food chain” does not give us an excuse to exploit them without mercy and compassion. Treatment of food animals in factory farms has gotten worse – I truly believe most people would change their habits if they knew how animals are tortured both in life and in the killing – and wondrous animals and species in the wild continue to fall in to extinction due to human overuse and brutal exploitation.
18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Know yourself sexually, accept yourself and your own unique sexual desires, do not ever let anyone make you feel bad about your sexual needs and desires, and learn to communicate those needs to your partner in a productive and compassionate way.
19. What is your favorite adult movie?
I don’t have a favorite adult movie. There have been those I’ve liked over the years, Cameron Grant’s first original “Dinner Party” and John Leslie’s very creative and hot “Dog Walker”, but honestly I don’t watch enough adult movies to be able to come with a ‘favorite’. I find most of them uninspiring and predictable.
20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
I honestly can’t think of anything. I’ve either already told someone or…I never will!
