A New Year, A Big Announcement – Introducing “Sweet Sinner Films”

As promised, I have a big announcement to make since returning from AVN. It’s already been noted in the press, but I haven’t yet spoken at length about it publicly.

Mile High Media (parent company of Sweetheart Video) and I have started a new boy/girl studio called “Sweet Sinner Films.” We’ve already shot half a dozen movies and counting, with the first release slated for March 2009.

I admit, I enjoy directing boy/girl scenes far more than I ever expected. My first taste of it, of course, was performing in a boy/girl scene myself with the extraordinary Manuel Ferrara (for the Sweetheart movie “Angel.”) Working with Manuel was a transcendent experience for me; I discovered a new energy, and new possibilities for erotic stories and romantic encounters. I knew then that I definitely wanted to direct boy/girl films.

The caveat, though, was I wanted to take the same approach to shooting boy/girl as I do with Sweetheart Video. That is, real sex, real positions, and most important (and problematic) of all: real intimacy. The question was, would the public want to see such films? Would the performers like the idea, or feel it was, well, “too personal”? After all, porn these days is famously unromantic; distinguished by sexual positions that seem both improbable and uncomfortable. But we decided to take the risk, and after lengthy discussions between Jon B (of Mile High Media) and me, “Sweet Sinner” was born.

At first, there was no shortage of advice from acquaintances with “experience” shooting boy/girl. I was advised to shoot most sex scenes on couches because “the angles are better” than on a bed. I was further told that I’d have to “learn how to deal with the guys when they can’t ‘get wood’ (an erection)” and “make sure they open up for the camera so you can get hardcore shots. Don’t let them do missionary (position); it’s too hard to shoot.” I listened to the well-intentioned cautions, but ultimately I discarded almost all of them. My one goal was to create an environment where real sex and real passion could be captured on film. If that meant that I wouldn’t always get extreme close ups passionless genitalia banging together mercilessly, then so be it.

So far, our philosophy is working and my fears have been put to rest. The male performers are thrilled by the chance to really make love to a woman, rather than simply to “bang” her. And not surprisingly, they don’t seem to have many “wood problems” when they’re allowed to kiss and indulge in foreplay before moving into the actual sex. It just feels more real to them — and to the female performers, who are surprised by how much they enjoy a more intimate, natural encounter. Everyone leaves the set feeling good — about themselves and their costars.

So with Sweetheart Video already firmly established as a top girl/girl studio, I hope Sweet Sinner can achieve the same success. It would be great if the new trend in porn can finally be more female-and-couple friendly. Erotic encounters borne of well-written seduction, and starring performers who truly want to be working together. I’m so proud to have a hand in doing something that feels so positive to everyone involved. Now the only thing left to discover is how the public will respond. I hope at least a few of you out there will write and give me your feedback. But for now, it’s hard not to feel that we’re on the brink of something big and exciting, and hopefully the start of a new era for erotic films.
