Studio: Cherry BoXXX Category: 2010 AVN Award Nominees

It’s time for one of the picks for Best Animated Release, which turns out to be “PornoMation 3 – DreamSpells.” It’s been a good while since I reviewed the original PornoMation, so it seems like as good a time as any to take a look at this latest installment.

The sets definitely look like they’re several steps above the previous PornoMation movie I reviewed earlier in the year, things like ambient lighting and shadows have definitely improved the feel overall. The character models have far more expressive and human faces (even the alien/dreamlike ones) though the bodies have gotten sor skinny that some joints seem to rely more on folding like paper then having a real working bone structure underneath. The best feature of the new models seems to be their super detailed sexual bits which are very dexterous and lovingly rendered, while the worst is still the distracting hair which shines like it has its own light source in some scenes and is constantly in so much motion it reminds me of Medusa’s mythically sentient tresses.

The animation overall has gotten much better, when the characters are doing little things like pouring coffee or watching TV the actions seem smooth and natural. Sex scenes are generally much hotter than I’ve experienced in precious CGI porn. There are still a few moments when I wish they hadn’t bothered rendering (I think the sex looks better from a slight distance rather than the camera filling money shots we’re used to in live action gonzo type flicks) in which too much of not the right detail can be a bit off putting.

My biggest disappointment would definitely have to be my usual pet peeve – voiceovers. Some of the voice work in the scenes is muted and somehow improperly mixed so that even though I know the dialogue was written specifically for these scenes and these actors are the originals, it just doesn’t sync up and you end turning the volume ridiculously high to catch any of it. Seemingly mixed over the actual voices, is the soundtrack and all ambient noise which only adds to this feeling of separation. When I can hear dogs barking and a clown car horn more clearly than the actors in the scene – there’s a serious problem.

Plot? Uhm, there’s an unhappy couple who starts cheating on each other in their dreams. Things get a little ugly when the husband gets upset that his wife is also having amazing fulfilling sexual dreams. That’s about it, not amazingly engrossing actually kind of sad but not entirely unusual in porn either. What was unusual was the written break before the final scene that paints a far more personal spin on the characters split but I won’t give away the ending…

I think that CGI porn has come a long way with “PornoMation 3 – DreamSpells” and that if you’ve got a craving for some computer generated blue – or at least purple – ladies after seeing this season’s blockbuster hit “Avatar” this will probably scratch your itch nicely.
