Well – I knew this day had to come eventually. I’m sure you’ve already heard about Hentai’s darker side, but the truth of it is without the limitations of actual physical bodies, Hentai gets to do some truly mind-blowing stuff. Think of Hentai as the equivalent of a big budget science fiction movie without the budget and you’ll start to see what I mean. Now toss in the fantasy genre and horror as well and you’re getting closer to the potential wealth of awesome that Hentai offers. That said; let us start with something easy to swallow – magical girls!

For the uninitiated, a ‘magical girl’ is a female character that’s imparted with special powers that she can turn on and off – for justice! These magical moments are usually accompanied by at least one mind meltingly cute costume change. “Jiburiru” features quite a few of these adorable butt-kicking divas. As an added bonus, these characters have demonic/angelic overtones to their powers that harks back to the most classic concepts of good versus evil.

Ok – not even the biggest haute couture fashionista gets off on a great outfit alone, so add in a really sweet romantic angle to this classic tale of angels versus demons. Naoto is finally ready to confess his crush on the main character Rika, when they’re interrupted by a demon named Asumo who is intent on stealing Rika away. Thankfully a little angel named Loveriel appears and saves the day, but in doing so greatly weakens herself. Loveriel passes her abilities to Rika so that she can defend them all against Asumo and his minions as they continue to attempt their abduction.

Sounds great so far, a bit of plot which I love, pretty costumes to look at, which I also love – so what’s the catch? Well if you’ve ever explored the world of Hentai before I’m sure you’ve heard of the dreaded tentacle monster – and this movie definitely features its fair share of slimy invasive appendages! Tentacle monsters are a staple in horror type Hentai as a scary but still sexual beast. Though in my opinion they’re kind of a lame duck for creating hot scenes because the body of the monster is located out of the frame during the act, if it has a body at all, and the viewer isn’t treated to as much of the thrusting movement involved in a good Hentai sex scene. The bodiless tentacle monsters in “Jiburiru” get a lot of the action including the first scene of the film, but I’m giving them bonus points for being a rare bisexual equal opportunity tentacle beast.

The rest of the sex is sweet and tender with a healthy dose of humor thrown in. According to Loveriel, Rika’s powers will only grow if she has lots of steamy adventurous sex with Naoto. Now that’s my kind of Angel and I’m absolutely certain that Naoto discovered religion after meeting up with Loveriel too! Overall the tentacles can’t detract from this series and characters sweetness, and it’s a real treat that the female characters are the real powerhouses in the film. I’d definitely recommend “Jiburiru” to anyone who’s looking for something a little to jolt their libido with something a little less ordinary.
