I admit it, sometimes I’m very shallow. Every now and again I pick a hentai title just because the artwork looks superior on the cover. After all with hentai it’s the art you’re getting off to just as much as the fantasy right? So I picked up Dark Future Vol. 1 to review today, the characters looked a little extra gooey on the boxcover but really nicely drawn here’s hoping the movie lives up to that promise.
It’s a good thing that I picked this one for shallow reasons, the subtitles are small and hard for my old eyes to read. I’m a veteran hentai watcher though so I can still follow the plot easily enough (lots of pausing going on) but for less seasoned hentai fans you might miss out on the riveting storyline about a secret society having its way with the students of a particular school.
Awe, the artwork doesn’t match up to the boxcover at all! They must have splurged for higher quality artwork for it. It’s not bad, just the difference between a nice anime title and a special edition OVA. An OVA literally means Original Video Animation and is usually a single episode of an anime that is done in a higher quality than the rest of the series and included as an ‘exclusive’ DVD extra. The budgets for these OVA’s can be astounding compared to the budgets for entire animes and usually the artwork is blockbuster film quality while still only about 30 minutes long.
Since hentai titles are usually a kind of direct to dvd type release, they’re often considered OVA’s even though the quality and context are different than anime OVA’s. So in a way the artwork quality in “Dark Future” both is and isn’t OVA level. I suppose all that anime has really spoiled me here, but when I’m watching a hot hentai, I’m looking for quality in artwork and animation. Technically the character design is handled capably enough, however the animation is choppy and not fluid which really ruins the fantasy in the sex scenes.
There are a few really nice close-up shots of the female characters, to show arousal, desire, temptation etc. but once they start humping, well it would be boring if it wasn’t so twisted – I’m not one to turn down surprise male on male anal. The male’s on the other hand, aren’t given the same treatment so even when they’ve got their face buried in a character’s muff, they’re still very flatly portrayed.
I’m torn. Normally I’d say that the stilted movement makes it impossible to get off on this one. But, it does have that awesome threesome scene and if you’ve ever dreamed of getting your male lover to try some guy on guy action – that’s hot enough you might just get lost in the fantasy. There’s a lot of specialty fantasy in this film, period sex, virginal sex, double dipping and anal cream pie, any of which might be enough to tip the scales and give you neighbor waking orgasms – if that’s your thing. If none of those fantasies appeals to you however, you’d be shit out of luck.
