Onward to recap #3! I seem to have quite a bit to say about going to the fabulous Feminist Porn Awards 2010! When I last left off, it was right after intermission and Nica Noelle’s awesome win for Sexiest Straight Movie – The Deviant!
Next up was the Good Releasing Emerging Filmmaker Award, a monetary award given to an up-and-coming filmmaker to finish their first porno masterpiece. This year’s honor was awarded to Tobi Hill-Meyer for her film Doing It Ourselves, The Trans Women Porn Project, an awesome movie that works hard to express the marginalized sexuality of trans women and truly embodies how sexy real folks fucking can be. Tobi just released the DVD and had a few hot off the press copies, so of course I picked one up for my collection! I think this is a big damn deal and I wanted to make sure I got one. And don’t think I didn’t think about you guys, I inquired about hopefully getting it for the site. We shall see!

After that we got an ah-maaazing performance by CoCo La Crème who played up the fact that we were actually in a church (though I doubt it still functions as a church, if it ever even did) with a Sunday’s best, church lady burlesque act. So hot! Amen!
Earlier in the evening I had asked her if her super cute sailor dress was part of her performance she said no, but that there would be an awesome theme. And she wasn’t lying! Unexpected and awesome – the perfect way to segue into the next award – Heartthrob of the year.
And the winner is… April Flores!!!
A total heartthrob, April is a majorly sexy zaftig goddess that brings old school glam to the screen in all of her movies and exudes a confidence that’s hotter than hot. Seriously, April Flores was the first porn star I ever had a crush on. And like I said on a previous recap, this lady is the nicest person ever. She is the whole heartthrob package.
A very honored April Flores started off tears of happiness that rolled over to the next two winners as well.
The best way to talk about the next winner, the Boundary Breaker of the Year, is to reprint presenter Lucas Silveira’s (of The Cliks!) intro:

Working on a whole slew of amazing projects this year (including my personal fav Belladonna’s Strapped Dykes!), as well as being nominated for an AVN award, starting a non-profit fundraiser site and just generally being a freaking awesome inspiration, Jiz Lee deserve this award like no one else. Jiz leaps boundaries left and right and keeps us on our toes and begging for more!
I don’t know what’s more endearing to me – a few tears of joy…

But really, it was Jiz explaining “porn is one of the first places that understands me as being genderqueer” that truly made their win one of my favorite moments of the evening.
Only two awards left!! Onward to Visionary of the Year! As it turns out, this award winner actually has the largest collection of Feminist Porn Award glass butt plugs with six wins under her belt, as well as a 2010 Viewer’s Choice win! She can now add a pure wand to her shelf!
Shine Louise Houston! Woohoo! After her 2009 win for Movie of the Year with Champion, not to mention her years of making super sexy queer smut and showin’ folks how WE fuck, this award is amazingly fitting. Congrats Shine! And thanks for being totally adorable earlier in the evening when you gave me an impromptu science lesson on elements. That was seriously hot.
And lastly, the final award of the night, the Trailblazer Award, which, for all intents and purposes, is a lifetime achievement award. But luckily the wonderful winner of this accolade is quite far from done with all her porno/sex ed achieving! The 2010 Trailblazer of the year is an amazing woman who has created a new way of making porn – giving the performers the agency to make choices about how, where and who they want to fuck, as well as brought passion and desire back into the porno classroom with her steamy sex education videos. Of course I’m talking about the amazing Tristan Taormino!!
Words do not describe this amazing lady. Just watch her movies. Trust me.

After the final award was given, the evening ended with a hoppin’ dance party and, of course, a bit of action with those fabulously functional pure wand awards…

JD it was so much fun to hang out with you at the awards! The other highlight of my night was finally becoming acquainted with the work of Shine Louise Houston, whom I think is a true artist and yes, visionary. She’s the filmmaker I most respect and admire, by a very wide margin. So that was exciting for me – especially finding out what a sweet, humble person she is once I gathered up the courage to talk to her.
