Arsenal Pulp’s Hot & Bothered 4 is not a new book. Hell, it’s nearly eight years old at this point, but good writing is timeless and I love this collection of short tales of lesbian love and lust.
One thing I really appreciated about this book is that it took me back a few years to a time when I was just out of college and had few concerns outside of meeting girls & drinking beer. Carol Queen (<3 her!) opens the book with She’s Not A Lesbian – a story that didn’t really turn me on as much as it made me remember the days before Ellen was out. It hasn’t been that long, but much has changed my younger friends! Anyways, while Queen surely has the ability to put together a few words that’ll make you weak in the knees, I was more impressed with her ability to capture the passions of a relationship where one woman, to quote Kate Clinton, “can't say the word lesbian… even when her mouth is full of one.”
I also loved Joy Parks’ Little Black Dress and think all of my femme friends will love the way our heroine uses her lady ways to get exactly what she wants! Another notable tale is Tanya Davis’ Best Bandanna. While I was expecting a kinkier story, because that’s where my mind goes when I think of bandannas, it turned out to be a great story of first love at a summer camp that I’m guessing a ton of homos relate to. I know I do.
With over 65 stories that are no longer than a 1,000 words, you’ll find plenty of great reads in this collection that was edited by Karen X. Tulchinsky. There’s a good mix of sexy and cute stuff and if you love a quickie, it’s a fantastic addition to your bookshelves. I also love all of the cultural references, even those that are a bit dated, and in a silly sort of way this is a little piece of lesbian history for me.
I’ve got a lot of little vibrators, but I never pass up the chance to check out a new item from Candida Royalle Natural Contours line. All of their products are designed with a woman’s body in mind, are phthlate-free and what’s even better is that they are affordable. I know not everyone can drop one hundred dollars on a sex toy, so it’s always nice to be able to recommend quality items that are a little easier on your wallet.
The Bon Bon is a small, yet powerful vibe that’s designed for external stimulation. It has three different speeds and a pulsation function, which really make this vibe stand out compared to similar toys. While the vibrations aren’t the most powerful, they are impressive based on size and the fact that it runs on a couple of AAA batteries. It’s obviously great for your naughty bits, but I use this one for shoulder massages and really like it.
Made out of non-toxic ABS Plastic, the Bon Bon is a body safe toy that’s also splash proof. That means it’s good for a round in the shower, but that you shouldn’t submerge it. I took mine in the shower and did a quick check later to make sure there wasn’t any water in the battery compartment. I’m always nervous about mixing water with my toys, but this experiment proved to be a great success.
One thing I’m pretty excited to point out is that I would think this toy would be a good gift for someone who has problems with their wrists or hands. It sits right on the pubic bone and is much easier to use and control than a bullet vibe or pocket rocket. While only an individual can gauge what’s right for them, I think it’s at least a good toy to suggest!
Finally, this small vibe (measures 2 X 2.75 inches) is great for travel. If you’re someone who’s a little more discreet, it’s far more likely to go unnoticed as you pass through security than a giant vibrating dong. It also comes with a cute bag for storage.
Overall, this is a really nice toy on the low end of the price scale. I love the way the shape allows you to pinpoint where you want to concentrate the vibrations and the fact that it’s multi-speed. If you’re looking for an affordable toy that’s well built, you should definitely check out the Bon Bon and the rest of the Natural Contours line.
Now that I’ve got that out of the way, let me tell you a little about JimmyJane’s fine waterproof massager. This silicone vibe looks a little like a bunny rabbit, fits in the palm of your hand and, although it may look a little silly, is one serious toy. Besides have five power options, there are for different functions that are pretty freaking amazing. While this is a relatively little guy, it definitely packs a punch for those of you looking for some big time buzz.
In my opinion, what really makes this vibe stand out is the fact that it has two powerful motors so both of the “rabbit ears” really buzz and pulse. One function kind of rolls back and forth between the two ears and is unlike any vibe I’ve used before and I have a lot of freaking vibrators.
There are a lot of good things I can say about this toy. It’s pretty quiet, especially when considering the power. It’s also waterproof, phthalate-free, rechargeable and makes me come, hard. However, I should talk about the fact that I’ve read a few reviews discussing a glitch with the Form 2. I haven’t had any problems with mine and I’ve used it a number of times. My experience with this toy has been 100% awesome so far, but if I run into any issues I’ll surely report back. The good news is that the thing is under warranty for three years and JimmyJane is a reputable company.
Anyone else want to chime in on their experiences with the Form 2?
Anyways, if I lived in a bubble I would say this is a toy every woman should own, but you may want to read other reviews if you’re seriously considering it. This has quickly become my go to vibe, so fingers crossed I won’t have any problems with it!
Thanks to the folks at Babeland who hooked me up with the Form 2 for review. Now that the Form 3 is available, I was a little embarrassed to be two toys behind in the line. You’ve saved my reputation.
I have to say I was a little surprised when the powers that be dropped the Pirate Pendant Vibe in my lap. For one, it’s a branded product for a movie we don’t actually carry, yet. For two, it’s a vibrating – necklace.
I’m not usually the ‘wears her heart on her shirt sleeve’ kind of girl, let alone around my neck, but I do occasionally enjoy being intentionally indiscreet. That means I was pulling my little black vibrating fashion accessory out of the package almost as soon as I got it and popped it around my neck, then I ran a few errands. Unfortunately with things like this, no one really notices you’re carrying a little black penis shaped vibe with skulls and crossbones on it unless you call attention to it, or if they do notice, they’re not going to say anything about it.
A couple of my favorite things about this little black bullet – it matched both my outfit and my style pretty damn well, which surprised the shit out of me, but I can’t wait to run around town with it again. Also, it’s easy to forget (or snicker knowingly at the fact), but vibes and back massagers are pretty much the same thing, in a pinch, and gods was I ever in a pinch.
I suffer from stress induced pain, headaches, joints, teeth… you name it and I can assure you it’s probably been KILLING me for months. When I got the Pirate Pendant Vibe, I was in the middle of a bundle of agony that had progressed from the level of headache to the kind of pain that makes me think I’d be better off without half as many body parts to hurt. Then I remembered “vibes are back massagers” and popped that little fucker right over my shoulder and turned it on. I didn’t want to run out the battery so I only used it for a few minutes at a time but dear gods that hit the proverbial spot and I was able to finish the day without severed body parts. That is more than enough to make me love the fuck out of this pendant vibe. Read the rest of this entry »
When it comes to sex toys, looks can totally be deceiving. I know I’ve made this connection many times before, but honestly, I reiterate this point over and over because I seem to always forget that it’s the case. No matter how many times I’ve underestimated a toy based on my initial glance, I can’t seem to remember that it could be the best toy I’ve ever tried.
So again, I took a quick peek at the vibe that landed on my desk - Katsuni’s Ancient Secrets, saw some glitz and glamour of a rhinestone jeweled handle and patterned shaft, and promptly assumed it would be some crappy vibrator that spent too much time on looks to have any good buzzing action. I left it on my desk for a few weeks before even bringing it home for a test run.
And, of course, as usual I was totally wrong. Not only is Katsuni’s Ancient Secret a totally sturdy vibe with a power packed buzzing punch, it’s made of phthalate-free medical grade materials (it doesn’t actually say what materials they are, but I’m pretty sure it’s plastic), is splash-proof and has five different speed/pattern settings. Not too shabby, right? And its velvety soft shaft is a total plus as well.
I will say that on first impression this vibe kind of looks like some sort of Hannah Montana microphone toy. And yes, I even sang into it to illustrate my point to my co-workers. What can I say? I’m nothing if not totally classy. The Ancient Secret is also packaged a little weirdly – like a movie tie-in toy, because that’s actually what it is.
Tied in with Digital Playground’s movie Pirates, this is one of the first cross-promoted sex toys I’ve ever seen, and totally looks like it on first glance. While that isn’t exactly good or bad, the packaging totally needed a mention. Also needing a mention are the accessories and one noticeably lacking addition. This toy comes complete with a nice satin carrying case, which is perfect for bringing it on the go, or just keeping it dust and lint free. Unfortunately you are totally on your own to find the two C batteries needed to power this baby up. I guess we can’t have everything, right?
I’m not getting married any time soon, but that doesn’t mean my girl and can’t get away for a romantic weekend every once in a while to make sure we keep things hot after eight years. Thanks to my sweet gig, we never lack for fun new toys to try out, but sometimes it’s nice to have a kit like this Babeland box to throw in a suitcase.
After a long hike and a soak in the hot tub, we decided to open up the Honeymoon in a Box and see what it had to offer and boy was there plenty. There are two Ophoria toys, the Finger Vibe and V-Ring, plus a set of dirty dice, flavored lube and Babeland Body Lickable Oil for massages.
We decided to start off the fun with the dirty dice. After my initial throw of “eat elbow” we got on a roll and had a little fun. I honestly don’t think we’ll use these again, but they did lead to a lot of laughs and a little sexy silly fun. If you’re looking to really set the night on fire I wouldn’t recommend these, but we did giggle a bunch and I really believe that laughing is key to a great relationship.
Next we moved on to the pomegranate vanilla massage oil. I love flavored oils because kissing and massage really go hand in hand and nothing stinks more than the taste of sour chemicals. Besides having an enjoyable taste, this oil functions well also. It’s long lasting but doesn’t leave your skin with sticky or oily at all. If there is one product in this kit I think is a must-have, it’s the massage oil.
Babeland was also thoughtful enough to include two vibrating toys from Ophoria for those of you who love a little buzz. We really enjoyed the finger vibe, which is great for clitoral stimulation or anal teasing thanks to the nifty finger handle. It’s made out of silicone and the vibe is removeable, so it can be sterilized. I love toys that add to our fun without dominating it and this was a pretty good one. I prefer multi-speed toys, but this is a high-quality item that makes this kit worth purchasing
They also included a vibrating cock ring, but we’re not into them, so I gave it to a friend to seduce his new girlfriend! I can tell you a few things about it. Like the finger vibe, it’s made out of silicone, which is awesome, although you shouldn’t use silicone lube with it. I’m guessing that between the prolonged erection and the extra stimulation for her, it would be a fun toy for many couples.
Of course, we took advantage of a new, body-safe lube to play with. I really like Babelube, but this is the first time I’ve tried their flavored lubricants and am happy to report it’s another fine product! It’s glycerin and paraben free and Dulce De Leche is a pretty fantastic flavor. It’s nice to be able to add a little sweetness to our sexin’ without worrying about the side affects of sugar, glycerin or any other nasty ingredients often found in flavored products.
The Honeymoon in a Box is a really fun kit that kept us busy on our weekend away. A lot of kits I’ve received over the years are full of lesser-quality products packaged in a pretty box. Babeland always includes fine products in theirs, so I definitely recommend them whenever you’re looking for a box of fun to get away with!
Erotica fans have likely heard of Rachel Kramer Bussel and if they haven’t they need to get on the ball! Bussel’s Cleis Press collections have been providing me with one-handed reading for years and this is another fine example of erotica at it’s best. Orgasmic features 25 stories that focus on the big O from a woman’s perspective and if that’s not reason to read it ladies, I’m not sure what will convince you.
One thing I love about this collection is that the stories cover a number of fantasies and kinks because the theme is pretty general. If hopping on one foot while singing the Journey’s greatest hits gets me off, there’s no reason I couldn’t have submitted a story about that for consideration! While RKB has better taste than to ever include talentless hacks like me, this leads to an arousing collection that will introduce you to new ways of getting off and that’s never a bad thing.
Without a doubt, my favorite story was Lana Fox’s Frosting First. I thought it was going to be a silly story about a couple getting it on while baking which is ok because I love food, but it’s so much more. I loved the way she shares our heroine’s deepest thoughts and desires throughout whether she’s thinking about being spanked with a spatula or her father. I also loved the voyeuristic twist at the end, even if things didn’t end like I assumed they would.
Bussel’s Belted is another that you don’t want to miss. This story has me wondering where my copy of her previous compilation Spanked is because she surely has a eye for this kink!
While not every story is a hit (there was one that seemed like a bad parody of erotica to me) the nice thing about collections like this is that if you hate a story you’re only out 5 minutes of your life! It sucks to feel disappointed after dedicating a chunk of time to something and I’d hate for anyone to feel what I did after finishing Henry James’ The Bostonians this summer. Really, Mr. James?!
I was majorly excited to review the Touche’ Bona Dea. When the sun set and the timing was right, I lathered her up and pushed the first bead right into my ass. Not sure what I was thinking, apparently not enough lube AT ALL and it hurt like hell to try and get just the first bead out. In other words, don’t do what I did.
Be patient; take your time and go slow! On my second time around it went much smoother. For you second timers like me, this is a good step forward.
My first experience was with a plug, it was enjoyable—yet I thought of the amazing possibilities of anal play. That was just the tip of the ice berg. What if it vibrated?
Voila! – Bona Dea a vibrating anal toy. And a perfect one at that made from medical-grade silicone polymer, hypo-allergenic and phthalate-free.
With an amazingly large amount of lube and relaxation the beautiful pink bead slipped into place and rapidly reached my body temperature. Having multi-speed motors in each bead the sensations were endless. There are a total of three beads; I’ve not advanced passed the second yet.
One difficulty I ran into was while trying to insert a bead; the motor would change speeds and sometimes turn off. This made the mood alter from pleasure to pissed. Once I figured how to persuade the bead in without pressing on the end where the motor was, it was all good. Read the rest of this entry »
Oh, the art of flirting. From that first coy glance to the flat out proclamation of attraction – there is nothing quite like the giddiness and excitement of a new, sexy beginning. So, it makes perfect sense why Tantus would name their deliciously minute butt plug Little Flirt. Teasing the sensitive sphincter muscles with its thin, graduated neck, the Little Flirt is a fabulous butt plug for beginners and pros alike, showing everyone that anal sex can be totally hot and enjoyable from the very start.
While I am no longer an anal amateur, I requested the Little Flirt butt plug to replace a Flirt that was lost during my many moves throughout the years. As sad as it was to lose such a dear toy, I wasn’t too torn up, since I did get an updated version of the Little Flirt! And let me tell you – those few new changes have totally made the difference!
The new and improved Little Flirt features a longer neck, which helps keep it securely inside your rectum, as well as special cut outs on the sides of the flared base that are perfectly shaped to help this little guy stay nestled between your cheeks and right where it needs to be. Little Flirt is also a great plug to wear around for a long time without feeling too full or like there is something gigantic in your rear.
And we can’t forget that this little guy is made of 100% silicone, which means it’s super easy to clean and sterilize (boil, bleach solution or dishwasher!), as well as totally body safe. Just be sure to lay off the silicone lube – we don’t want any melting butt plugs!
Even as an experienced bottom, I still really like to go back to the Little Flirt when it comes to getting prepared for action and working up to some of my bigger backdoor buddies. And for my not-so-anally-savvy dates, beginners luck is a given when you add a bit of passion, a dollop of lube and, or course, a Little Flirt!
My first thought when I saw the Fancy Me Kit was, ‘oooh self indulgence how I love thee,’ my second thought was ‘I’m not loving the feathers.’ Packaging counts for a lot with me – a really pretty toy that’s nicely wrapped will push my impulse-buy button like no one’s business. On the other hand, a less than adorable toy in sub-stellar packaging makes me hesitant to touch it at all, let alone take it home and do nasty things to it.
Next thing I noticed about the kit, maybe it was all that vanilla scented stuff in such a small container but the whole thing smelled really, really strongly. Usually I’m all for something to make the office smell a little bit better but that little bundle smelled so strongly I ended up having to put it in a drawer till I could take it home. It was much more appreciated in my living room combating stinky litter box odors later on though.
By the time I took my kit to the bath with me, I was really ready to love this little package. It hadn’t had a fair shake up till now and I was eager to get the notions and potions out and to the test; more than ready to hop into my tub with a long vanilla bubble bath and let all those negative points just melt away in the heat. I went to pour my bubble bath, upended the bottle over the tub and nothing came out – each tiny little none internal use bottle had a little seal over the mouth. Not the punch through aluminum ones, but the tough as nails paper and plastic ones and not a single one of those seals had a little easy pull tab so I had to sit down and scrabble around the tiny lip of each bottle to get to the bubble bath, oil and lotion.
