From the Desk of… the Porn Librarian.
The gay-rights movement reaches a milestone Thursday when its agenda is the subject of a televised Democratic presidential forum. Yet many activists — craving bolder support for same-sex couples — view the unprecedented event with mixed emotions.
Though pleased that all the candidates of a major party are courting their votes and endorsing the bulk of their political wish-list, they are frustrated that none of the front-runners is calling for legalization of gay marriage.
The forum, to be held in Los Angeles, is co-sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, a gay-rights group that has become increasingly influential in Democratic politics, and by Logo, the gay-oriented cable channel that will provide a live telecast and Internet simulcast.
Don’t forget to tune in Thursday night, 9 p.m. Eastern!

When I was browsing smut sites today, I came upon a review of a new documentary called “Passion and Power.” It just premiered in NYC this weekend, so I haven’t had a chance to see it, but just knowing it exists makes this nerd smile.
This film is the result of one curious historian’s diligent efforts to preserve the history of every girl’s best friend, the vibrator. I know very little vibe history, and I have to admit I am disappointed in myself. There are always exceptions, but I typically like to know something about any partner’s history before I fall into bed with them. Thankfully, Rachel Maines has come to the rescue and done the research for us. I can’t wait to join her, and a number of notable women, on this sordid journey!
You can check out the official website here!
If you’re not yet convinced that this should be on your list of movies to check out, Margaret Cho had this to say about it:
“This tremendously important and provocative film uses humor and great insight to illuminate our dark past…I loved it almost as much as I love my vibrator!”

I learned the best road trip game EVER and had to share it. My brilliant friend C.K. and I recently took a road trip out to the end of Long Island to take advantage of our friend’s beach house. Anyone who has ever tried to drive anywhere within 500 square miles of NYC can imagine how not fun this trip could have been. Fortunately, we played a game I’m going to call “Anal Road Trip” and had the best time ever. It’s quite simple, you take the word “Anal” and then you place it in front of the whatever model car you see and the result is the name of a porno. For example, we were in a Jeep Liberty, so the porn name would be “Anal Liberty.” That would be a fantastic name for a Porn, if it hasn’t already been done. Here are a few more examples:
- Anal Caravan
- Anal Mustang (probably a gay title)
- Anal Focus
- Anal Expedition
I could go on forever. Even the cars that don’t make sense, end up being hilarious. So when you take off on your next summer adventure, give it a try and let me know what your favorites are. I hope you have half as much fun as we did!
Safe Driving!

Pornology: Noun—1: A Good Girl’s Guide to Porn; 2: The Misadventures of the World’s First AnthroPORNologist; 3: A Hilarious Exploration of Men, Relationships, and Sex.
When Ayn Carrillo-Gailey’s boyfriend accuses her of being pornophobic, she sits down and creates a “porn to do list.” It includes visiting a strip club, testing vibrators, and ten other items she, as a self-described “good girl”, is curious about but has never experienced. The result is this book; a laugh-out-loud memoir of her journey through the adult entertainment industry.
Her writing is honest and she, along with her always entertaining friends the Naughty Knitters, hold nothing back as they explore subjects that are sometimes taboo and always interesting. You’ll learn what goes on behind the scenes at a brothel, how much you should tip for a lap dance, and that laughing during sex is a good thing!
One chapter worth mentioning is when she was inspired by Morgan Spurlock’s documentary “Super Size Me” and decides to consume nothing but porn for two weeks. She turns off NPR and tunes into Howard Stern. She is coaxed into eating lunch at Hooters by a friend who insists she should eat at “porn-related food venues.” Finally, she receives over 100 porn videos from her supportive friends with imaginative titles like Clitty Clitty Gang Bang and A Clockwork Orgy, that are playing almost constantly. In the end, she’s a little burnt out and a box of porn has crashed down on top of her latest crush, but she’s found out a lot more about her own desires. She’s also inspired by her latest experiment, and invites the aforementioned crush to a viewing where she is greatly rewarded.
Overall, the book is a quick, entertaining read that I would recommend to anyone who is curious about the sex industry or just looking for a good time!

Over the last two years, my job in porn has quickly evolved into a something I’ve avoided until now, a career. That’s right, I’m climbing the corporate ladder in the adult entertainment world, and I’ve never given a blowjob. For a lesbian who has a degree in Women’s Studies and then went to graduate school to become a librarian this is at times confusing, often empowering and an experience that makes me question a great deal of what I was once so confident in.
Since my plan to go to school forever didn’t work out, I’ve decided to study pornography. I’m going to watch porn and try to figure out how I really feel about it and what that means about my sexuality. I’m going to read about pornography in industry magazines, online, in books and anywhere else I can find it (any suggestions?) I’m going to look at radical anti-pornography crusaders like Andrea Dworkin for the first time since college, research the impressive women who work within the industry and try to understand how they’ve changed it. For me, it’s going to be all porn all the time!
This blog is my attempt to make sense of it all, to try to help my friends understand why I suddenly talk about cock a lot, and hopefully a place where I can get some feedback and further my quest to consider pornography from all angles and then reconsider what I think I know.
