Next week HotMoviesForHer and Sinclair Sexsmith will be hosting another Porn Party, with the fabulous Alpha Femmes as our movie of choice.  To help us celebrate, Alpha Femme’s director Anna Devia stopped in to answer our 20 Questions and give us a sneak peak into the woman behind such a hot piece of porno!

1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
In 1998, I started shooting erotic & fetish art photography and building a body of work. After I moved from Texas to LA in 2000, I continued shooting & started selling content, doing portfolio development for models, head shots, catalogs, private commissions, gallery shows, etc. In 2008, I moved to Oakland and worked as a sex educator for Babeland. Fueled by all the porn I was watching at work constantly, and just the natural evolution of my photography, I decided to start making films. So I created Anna Devia Productions and released Alpha Femmes and here I am.

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
My work is not limited to adult. I do work in the healing arts as well, which is also about “the body” but on the completely non-sexual end of the spectrum.

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
I’ve learned the difference between the “scene” and the “industry.”

4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
Construction workers next door to the house where we were filming were getting sneak peeks of the action through this big picture window during one of the scenes. One guy was standing behind a beam on the second floor peeping around it.

5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in the industry?
That we’re victims, rather than warriors

6. What did you do today?
Massage appointment, therapy appointment, hair appointment

7. What would you rather have done today?
I’d rather have been on a yacht in some amazing tropical locale, sipping cocktails while lounging under an umbrella.

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
Kenneth Anger, and with his permission of course lest he curse me, I’d like to title it “Hollyweird Babylon.”

9. Who is your favorite adult performer?

Alpha Femmes was an amazing process from conception through production. I brought 4 of my fantasies to life, down to every detail, and it came out truly beautiful & intense & amazingly fucking hot!

14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
Time-travel, so I could go back and experience different historical periods, and have vintage sex. And also so I could travel into the future, and hopefully have sex with 3-titted aliens. Is that a superpower?

21. As a trans woman in the industry, how do you feel about the language used in porn movies, ie. She-male, Tranny?
I personally hate the words shim, she-male and lady boy… anything that has a male term in it I think is a little bit offensive. But in porn it kind of is what it is…  I’m sure genetic females don’t like being called ‘cum guzzling sluts,’ but it’s just the title. “Tranny” is fine to me because it’s just a shortened version of “transsexual.”

22. What do you think is the biggest misconception about trans folks and trans identity in the industry?
I hate that they say transsexuals are the ones with HIV and AIDS in the industry. In fact, the last two people who got booted for it never shot transsexual porn, just gay and straight. In America we have to get tested just like everyone else or we can’t shoot.

23. Do you feel as though your identity and personal sexuality is represented in the movies you perform in?
Kind of… My personality definitely is shown in movies but I’ve shot a few TS on TS scenes, which would most likely never happen with me in my real life. I’m a much bigger slut in porn.

24. Queer porn as a genre is rapidly expanding.  Do you consider the movies you perform in queer movies; do you consider yourself a queer performer?  Why/why not?
It depends. In today’s society “queer” means gay, and I am not in gay porn, I’m in transsexual porn… if you mean queer with the proper definition, then yes, the porn I shoot is different. I’m a fine ass bitch that just happens to have a dick. I consider myself a porn performer… they’re all “queer” to me.

Nonetheless, I  got into the industry 8 months ago (Mmm Fresh Meat). I have wanted to be in porn for awhile, however I was feeling deterred due to stereotypes, family and peer approval.

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
I would probably be a nun, celibate living in a monastery. Just Kidding, I would have joined the NYPD, or become a teacher or a social worker. I went to college to pursue a degree in Forensic Psychology. My main goal while pursuing a degree was to enter a field in were I would be helping others. I am content with my choice to become a porn star based on my sexual urge to be in the limelight and show everyone my huge appetite for whoopee.

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received in the industry?
The best advice I received in the industry is keep working hard and just have a goal in mind. Porn isn’t forever, be smart, promote and have a long term plan.

4. Whats the funniest things that’s happened to you while filming?
The funniest thing that has happened to me on set is when a male performer was about to cum in my mouth and he accidentally chummed up my nose. Eww gross, a cum booger!

5. What do you think the biggest misconception about women in the industry?
That women are stupid, drug addicts and were victims of sexual abuse. In life, people will always have their perception and beliefs about the sex industry. It upsets me very much, because most people who disagree with porn are not open minded. Sex saves lives and marriages… so shut up and get down to business.

6. What did you do today?
I’m at the airport flying back to L.A. from Columbus, Ohio. I was there to feature dancing at Columbus Gold.

7. What would you rather have done today?
Gotten my vagina banged about 5-6 times. Orgasmic pleasure indeed would have been my ideal day.

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
Marilyn Monroe – she was a beautiful woman and is one of my role models.

Wonderfully sacrilegious and appropriately naughty with many fine performances.  Paul Thomas plays one of the depraved monks, not long after he starred in Jesus Christ Superstar! Directed by Sharon McKnight, before she became a much-beloved cabaret star in her own right.

Cafe Flesh: This script continues to become more timely. Post-apocalypse society has been divided into two groups: one of sex-negatives who can’t approach orgasm without becoming violently ill, and the other of sex-positives who are forced to perform in institutionalized sex clubs where negatives gather to observe them. Of course there are the rebels too!  A cult classic that crossed over to mainstream movie theaters with its science fiction prophesies looking more realistic than ever.

The Devil In Miss Jones: Most famous early porn movies, like Deep Throat, don’t deserve the critical attention they’re accorded. Devil in Miss Jones is a notable exception; it’s riveting. A must for every recovering-Catholic. Troubling, arousing, superlative performances, particularly from Georgina Spelvin, the best who ever graced the X-screen.

Only The Best: Jim Holliday, a respected porn historian who’s the equivalent of an “Hardcore Roger Ebert,” has compiled a selection of his favorite scenes. He has excellent taste.  Each scene is accompanied by information about the selection. It’s an excellent introduction to what is considered the finest in commercial erotic video. If you ever meet someone who grumbles, “I’ve never seen anything in a movie that turned me on…”— show them this and watch them SHUT UP.

11. If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d change?
Oh boy… I would start with the military, then jobs, etc. There’s too much so say and so much that could be done.

Nothing, I am not easily embarrassed.

I don’t have a favorite because I enjoy working on all my projects.

14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
I would have the ability to turn men into women for one day, so they would know how it feels like to be approached and treated like a piece of meat.

I like them both.

“The Lincoln Lawyer” is my favorite book.

I’d have to say men who don’t know how to talk to women, for starters.

Well in this business you have to be open minded when it comes to sex and of course you have to LOVE it.

Any and all movies that Jenna Jameson has made—she’s amazing!

Julie Simone is one ferociously badass Jill-of-all-trades. 1. How (and when) did you get started in the industry?
I did some modeling in college, but my first “adult” job was working in a webcam place.  I worked my way up to management/marketing and learned about the internet, adult sites and got my start shooting for ALScan.com (as Gillian)

2. If you weren’t in the adult industry, what would you be doing?
Hopefully doing something creative…

3. What’s the best thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received from industry?
To thine own self be true.

4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened while filming?
Falling off an apple box during my 1st strap on scene.  My boot heel slid on the latex sheet on the bondage bed and I fell off!

5. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in the industry? 
That they’re all raging nymphos.  Sadly lots of them are just punching the clock.

6. What did you do today?
Edited a scene from an upcoming DVD, selected images for a motorcycle magazine cover w me as the model…

7. What would you rather have done today?
I have no complaints about today, though I always enjoy days when I do Pro-Domme sessions or film as well…

8. If you could do a movie with anyone (living or brought back from the dead) who would it be?
Aria Giovanni has been on my dream model list for a while, though I have no idea what I’d do with her…

9. Who is your favorite adult performer? 
I always love working with Summer Cummings and Ashley Renee. They’re both amazing people, in addition to being great performers.

10. You’ve got 20 bucks left to your name; what would you do with it?
It’s a situation I’ve been in many times.  Keep pressing forward, eventually the reward will come. In the meantime, conserve, learn to need less, and be more disciplined.

I didn’t clamp an enema bag properly in a session, and it was one of the first times I’d ever used one on anyone. The nozzle popped out and water squirted everywhere!

Working with Gia Paloma on “Audition” was really amazing, as were several movies I’ve directed for various reasons. My favorite changes with each new project I do. I love “Cocksucker”, because it finally got me recognized by the Feminist Porn Awards, “Audition” put me on the mainstream porn map, and “Slavery a Love Story : The Beginning” was special to me because it’s the first project I worked on with Rich Brigham of Bella Tech. We spent 2 weeks together working on the music…it was an amazingly beautiful intense experience.  “Masturbation Roulette” was great, because it was edgy (I fuck myself with a loaded gun, spinning the chamber after each orgasm).  I did re-shoots to get everything perfect, something I never do. Sadly, you’ll probably never see it in the US festivals, and it’s only shown in Europe. I fall in love with every film I make, if only for a little while.

14. If you could have 1 superpower what would it be?
To snap my fingers & have everything be quiet.

15. Meat or veggie?
MEAT

 16. What is your favorite book? 
It’s a tie between “Notes from Underground” by Dostoevsky and “A Book of Common Prayer” by Joan Didion.

17. What is your biggest pet peeve?
I have several, grammar & punctuality are big ones…

18. What is your best piece of sex advice for women?
Hygiene is important.

19. What is your favorite adult movie?
Marquis’ “White Room 3” was the first fetish movie I saw & the imagery has stuck with me all these years. It was classy, yet hot. I also like Jack the Zipper’s “Blacklight Beauty,” especially the blow-bang scene in the bathroom.

20. Tell me one thing you’ve never told anyone else.
If it was a story worth telling, I’ve told it to someone already   When I was little, I fantasized about becoming a nun.  I was raised atheist, but was obsessed with Catholicism, using religion to rebel rather than rebelling against it.

Welcome back to the second part of our awesome interview with star April Flores and her husband, director Carlos Batts!  A few weeks back we spent a delicious hour all together in my hotel room in Toronto (for the Feminist Porn Awards) where the pair sat for an interview (get your minds out of the gutter…) and answered all these random questions I threw at them. Bless their pervy hearts for not walking out.

Last month when I headed north for the Feminist Porn Awards, I was lucky enough to not only get to spend a little quality time with the fabulous April Flores, I got to meet her amazing husband, director Carlos Batts as well!  It turned out that I was staying at the same hotel as them and latched on to their awesomeness, hanging out with them during the events of the weekend.  Did I mention how much I love my job??

Anyway, one of the great things they did that weekend was come to my room and shoot a little video.  Ok, not THAT kind of video (hey, a girl can dream) – an interview!  A few months back, we interviewed the pair at the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, which was fantastic, but I wasn’t actually able to be there to conduct the interview (I just sent my questions with our people that were there), so I knew I had to lure them into my room to get the scoop myself.  Also, the last time we interviewed them, it was pretty much all about their latest movie, Artcore, which is awesome, but I wanted to talk about other stuff too.

April and Carlos were downright charming (duh) and spent a good long while answering my questions and generally being the rock stars that they are.  Take a look at our awesome chat about how they got started, what it’s like working together and what is coming in the near future!
