Before 1972, sex was all about science, no pleasure involved. Well, not really, but that’s what you might have thought had you checked out the local book store. Nary a book touched on the intimacies and intricacies of sex and sexuality until The Joy Of Sex hit the shelves that year. Revolutionary with it’s topics, attitudes and now iconic images, Joy touched on everything from bondage to sexual positions of all kinds. And, of course, it was written by a man, Alex Comfort.
Fastforward three decades, four updates, eight million copies sold and countless feminist critiques - The Joy Of Sex just got a 2008 makeover, written by a woman! Psychologist and sexpert Susan Quilliam took on the not-quite-as-revolutionary-but-still-very-important task of updating the new version to include contemporary issues such as phone sex, the internet, sex and preganacy and forty others - all written from a female point of view! Finally, a few more mentions about the clit! At least more than just the three measly references in the original.
Added Bonus: Also made over are the visuals, from the illustrated hippie drawings (pictured above) to modern nakeds getting busy.
Unfotch we in the U.S. have to wait until Jan. 2009 for it to reach local bookshelves. Guess you’ll just need to keep watching porn. Tough break, I know.
This edition looks like it’s going to do wonders for this already awesome book. Sometimes things just need a woman’s touch. I know I never mind it…

There isn’t much sexy about a dildo protruding out of someone’s thigh. It’s just true. That’s the funny thing about sex toys. Sometimes they aren’t all that sexy until they are engaged in a sexy act. And there isn’t much sexier to me than being on top of my girlfriend, grinding into any part of her. So while the leg harness is a little odd to look at at first, you get over it when you get into it.
The harness basically works like a knee brace (totally hot comparison, I know), wrapping around the thigh and fastening with Velcro. A sewn-in O-ring holds the dildo base tight against your thigh, leaving the business end of the dildo available for doing business. The Velcro holds the harness in place really well and keeps the dildo from moving around. No matter what position we tested, the harness stayed put. We didn’t even need to adjust it or re-Velcro as we moved around.

With a title like Female Fantasies, how could I let this one pass me by? Especially after I read the description – that the scenes are based on erotic fantasies that the director’s (Petra Joy) female clients and friends sent to her. And that they are performed with real life lovers rather than porn professionals. How hot is that?! Well, the actual scenes are even hotter. The fantasies are all over the map, from a sensual orgy to one man jerking off in the shower. There is even one filmed entirely underwater. While each scene brought its own brand of hot, my favorite was the sixth, a playful kitchen romp between two ladies. I don’t know which part I enjoyed more, the naked woman baking and getting drippy batter all over her fingers, or the gender blending of the other woman, who was totally nude with shirt cuffs and a tie. I’ll admit that the whole trailing a single rose over her lover’s body was a bit cheesey for my tastes, but watching them feed each other berries and use a wooden spoon for spanking was definitely enough to make up for it. And enough to spur fantasies of my own.

Hahaha. Ouch. I’d laugh more, but I used to be a fact checker at a Philly magazine, so really, I feel their pain. Oh no! The guild master Titus has been kidnapped and is being tortured by bad guys! Lucky for him the Hunter and her loyal companion set off to rescue him. Lucky for us, Shyla Stylez and Mindy Lee get distracted by the taste of pussy on their way. After a little tribadism, they realize the stakes of their mission and get back to it!

I’d always wanted to try a suction cup dildo but was apprehensive because I like vibration with my toys. During sex with a partner, I can usually orgasm from penetration alone but when it comes to toys I definitely need that vibration. So when I saw the Emperor, I was really excited because it satisfied my need for vibration and my desire to try a suction cup toy.
I first tried it like a regular dildo while lying on my back and it was okay, nothing to write home about. I then decided to put it on my apartment floor (which I refer to in conversation as “putting the hard wood on the hardwoods”) and give it a go.
There are two things I really liked about the Emperor. One, the suction cup is surprisingly strong. I definitely didn’t have to worry about being gentle because it wasn’t going anywhere. The second thing I liked is that it filled me up. The size and girth (6.25″ total length, 1.75″ width) of the toy are what I would consider to be ideal in terms of penis size.
Here are my issues with the Emperor: first of all, it’s made of jelly rubber which means it contains phthalates. Not only are phthalates potentially dangerous for your body, they smell. I washed it a few times before use and I couldn’t make it stop smelling weird - and the smell stays on your hands, too. The vibration didn’t really do anything for me personally and in fact, it was more uncomfortable than it was pleasurable when I was on top of the toy.
The Emperor was also not waterproof and I think that this would be great fun in the shower. Oh well.
I think that when it comes to a suction cup dildo, vibration may not be the way to go - at least for me. At certain angles, it was more painful than it was pleasurable. However, with the vibration off, it was pretty enjoyable - I just had issues with the smell. For those reasons, I think the Silicone Crystal Cote is the way to go. It’s phthalate-free, non-vibrating, and waterproof. And pretty; I like pretty. It’s what a girl deserves, right?

I love ‘80s hair metal. It’s just true. I hear a little Poison on the radio and get a little weak at the knees. Bon Jovi starts me sweating and you don’t even wanna know what happens when the Crue comes on! That’s right, Mötley Crüe, the inspiration for this Burning Angel flick named after the group’s 1987 hit. Unfortunately for me there was no hair metal in the actual movie, but on the flip side it was all Girls, Girls, Girls – tattooed, pierced up alt beauties, to be exact, and not a man for miles. The six all girl scenes of the actual movie were pretty decent, with lots of inked girl flesh and plenty of sex toys. I especially enjoyed scene 6, with Joanna Angel and Jenna Haze fucking on a motorcycle. At first I couldn’t figure out why they were on a bike, but it finally make sense when I remembered the video for the song, with the Crüe riding around town on motorcycles. Nice reference ladies. I’m impressed.
While the actual movie was alright, the bonus scenes are what totally did it for me. I LOVED them! The first and the last extra scenes are Joanna Angel fucking super hot tattooed chicks who have never been on video before. Wow. My ultimate favorite is the very last scene, with Joanna giving screen newbie Cadence the time of her life with about a million orgasms. There is nothing whatsoever faked about any of these orgasms – from her full body spasms to her bright red sex flushed face. It was by far one of the hottest orgasms I’ve seen on film in a while. And that’s nothing to sneeze at coming from the mouth of a porn reviewer. Good show Angels, very good show.
