It’s summer so I’m sure I’m not the only femme on the planet doing the bikini line battle thing right about now. When we got a call from Bikini Kitty asking if HotMoviesForHer had any ladies with coarse hair types that wanted to try out one of their hair removal lines, I jumped at the opportunity. Thankfully since I’m the only one here with a coarse (also known as straight up nappy wool) hair type, there was blessedly little contention over who would get to try out the product.

Packaging counts big time; it’s always nice when a particular item arrives in the office and we all gather round, cooing over the packaging and patting ourselves on the back that we’ve definitely picked a treat this time. Seriously, it’s like Christmas comes to Porntown – without all the humping of Santa and his elves. My Bikini Kitty Shaving Kit came in a clear plastic bag with pink handles and little snaps at the top, a big picture of their mascot lounged on the front of the bag but despite being entirely see through it was perfectly discrete for the train ride home. Not a bad start at all.

When I opened the bag I was nearly overwhelmed. There were two dayglo colored plastic razors, what looked like a fingernail brush, a tiny bottle of oil and two larger bottles – all crammed in there along with the instructions. I got nervous with all that spread out on the table; it was a lot of stuff! There was a little note with everything stressing how important it was to read and follow the instructions included with the kit, so I sat down and got to work. What did the instructions have to say? Plan for 6 whole days of prep before you’re ready to shave anytime anywhere and as much or as little as you want.

Wait, what? Yes, it took a full week just to complete phase one of this review. I have to give it to them, the makers of Bikini Kitty are very thorough. I’m not going to go through each of their steps, but they do work amazingly well towards the general goal of keeping you from developing ingrown hairs. Unfortunately the very methods that they espouse are really focused on taking care of one issue and one issue only with hair removal – ingrown hairs.

For example Bikini Kitty gives you two single bladed razors and suggests never shaving against the grain or with multiple blades as these can cut too closely and encourage ingrown hairs. Problem is that using a single bladed razor and shaving with the hair, you get insta-stubble. It looks presentable from a distance but up close it’s a hell of sandpaper pelvis not great for date night. Also since you didn’t get a really close, smooth shave to begin with the ‘itch’ of growing stubble on delicate bits starts almost immediately. So – fail on that whole getting touchable kissable skin after your shave or being particularly more comfortable in the heat of summer, but once the method is in full swing you can have a relatively quick shaving experience and less unsightly bumps.

Bikini Kitty’s method works, quite well in fact but their shaving method kind of made me hate razors all over again. I’d recommend this kit for anyone with a teen girl who has started getting concerned about her pit hair and wants to tidy up for summer – it’s definitely a great introduction into the wide world of hair removal that I wish I’d known about in my teens. Unfortunately for older women with established routines, they’re probably not at all dissimilar to Bikini Kitty’s methods and already fitting into your schedule nicely. Please no one decide to try this right before slipping into something special or that big date, you’ll really need at least a week to really get this puppy started!
