It’s official! At 5pm today, the ban on gay marriage overturns in California! And at 5:01, Robin Tyler and Diane Olsen will be the first same-sex couple in L.A. to get hitched.
Now, I’ll admit that I have my own issues with marriage in general and the whole history of it, and when I watch shows like Bridezilla or look at the price tag of a dress you only wear once for a few hours (not to even mention the idea of women as property), I throw up in my mouth a little bit. But when I see something like this - a couple like Robin Tyler and Diane Olsen, who have been together for 15 years and tried to get married 8 TIMES and been denied, I get all misty-eyed and heart-warmed. I once read this magazine article where this writer was talking about how the fact that anyone can commit to anything these days is a damn miracle, so even though she wasn’t that into the idea a marriage, she accepted and celebrated her friend’s wedding. I can’t remember where I read this, but it just about sums up how I feel about marriage as a celebration of love.
Anways, congratulations to all the same-sexers getting married today and in the future!
