Does getting rid of your pubic hair actually make a difference?-Shy About Shaving
Orlando, FL
There are a number of different ways that you could mean “make a difference” when it comes to keeping/removing pubic hair, so I’ll try to cover a few bases with this question.
First, when it comes to aesthetics, pubic hair preferences vary from person to person. This means that sure, it can make a difference to someone that prefers a completely hairless pussy or to someone else that is turned off by one. The real part that makes a difference in deciding how to wear your pubic hair, is choosing a style that makes you feel sexiest. The hotter you feel, the more confidant you are, which can correlate to how good your sexual experiences are and how much fun you have. Simple as that.
In the situation of STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), the only real difference that removing your pubic hair can make is with crabs – which are body lice that attach to the pubic hair. No hair means no crabs. Body and head lice are a different kind of louse, so no need to worry about shaving from head to toe.
If we are talking about the difference that being completely bald makes in actual sensation and pleasure - most likely what the question is referring to – then yes, there can be actual differences. Like every other part of the human body, pubic hair grows for a variety of reasons, including preventing your skin from chaffing, to trap dirt and bacteria, and to hold the scent of pheromones.
The one from that list that really makes a difference during sex is chaffing. Pubic hair protects your sensitive genital skin from rubbing directly on your partner’s skin or against their hair, which can cause irritation. That doesn’t mean that having a hairless crotch automatically equals chaffing and pain, it’s just a higher chance of the possibility of it happening. And while we are talking about irritation, let me just mention that the hair stubble that grows back in can also be irritating to your partner(s)’ skin, especially if they are going down on you.
Another practical difference with having/not having pubic hair for some people deals with accessibility and ease in giving oral sex. Some partners find a hairless cooch more preferable when giving head, but there are also many people that could care less about going down on a penis with hair around the base – and others that would much rather lick a completely natural pussy. There are fans of every style.
To go back to irritation once more, I do want to hit upon the annoying little side effects of pubic hair removal than can affect your sex life. Shaving or waxing your pubic region can cause ingrown hairs – hairs that burrow into the skin instead of out like usual - which leave red, inflamed bumps that can be painful and itchy. This can hinder your sex life, as it can be very irritating to the already sensitive skin. The same goes for freshly waxed skin. You can avoid both of these issues by just trimming your pubic hair very short. While it’s not exactly the same as being hairless, at least you won’t have itchy red bumps covering your pubic area. Plus the upkeep is not nearly as high maintenance as shaving or waxing.
Just to include my own two cents on the matter, I want to include that shaving/waxing/trimming/whatever is not a requirement of beauty or a health necessity. It is a practice that many people choose to participate in and a fairly common cultural norm of Americans, but there are also many other cultures that do not include hair removal in their beauty/hygiene regiment. This includes leg, armpit, body and facial hair as well. As a female member of the American culture that does not partake in any hair removal (that’s right, I don’t even shave my armpits!), I can tell you from my own experience that I see having hair, be it pubic or on your head, as a totally subjective and personal decision that needn’t be based on what other people find appropriate. Plus, I find my own decision to keep my hair as empowering and super hot.
On one last note before I finish up, remember that shaving, waxing or trimming (really whatever way you get rid of it) your pubic hair can be a very erotic and sensual experience, both with a partner or alone. You can incorporate it into your sexual/erotic play and turn something that could be a boring chore into something that might very well be a total turn on. You never know unless you try, right?
Thanks for the question!
