Play and Pack - Storing Sex Toys

31 Gallons, Oh Yeah!

“With great power comes great responsibility.”  Alright, I know that’s the Spiderman credo, but whatever, I’m adapting for my own purposes today.  And those purposes are talking about sex toys.  I know I am a lucky, lucky girl to have landed a job as awesome as working at HotMoviesForHer.  Not only do I get to write and talk about sex all day long, be surrounded by hot naked chicks (fine, they are only on my computer screen, but still) and meet all these amazing women that are working to make the porn industry and the field of sexuality even better, I get free sex toys.  Sure, I have to write about all the intimate details of using the toy, but that’s a teeny tiny price to pay when I get to play with some of the hottest toys on the market.  This also means that I have a fuck of a lot of sex toys.  While I am most certainly not complaining, I bring up the point that it also means that I have to store and maintain a fuck of a lot of sex toys.  As as you guys know, care and maintenance of some materials isn’t quite as easy as just chucking all the toys in a box on top of one another.

This is where the whole power/responsibility thing comes in.  I have all these awesome sex toys (the power), but it means I have all these awesome sex toys that I need to make sure are stored properly so they stay awesome and usable (the responsiblity).  The Spiderman thing isn’t a perfect fit, but whatever, it will do in a pinch.  Anyway, back to the dilemma at hand.  I’m not exactly “in the closet” about my sex toy proclivity or my job in general, but I’m also not the type of person who needs her favorite dildos on display in the living room.

There are dedicated sex toy storage units, such as this Lockable Vibrator Case or bigger cases from For Your Nyphomation.  Check out a whole slew of options here.  These cases and toy chests are great, especially the locking ones, but unfortunately, sometimes you just can’t afford both the toys and the chest to store them.  So what’s a girl to do?

The Daily Bedpost just answered this question for one of their readers (which inspired this post actually).  Em and Lo have some really great ideas - like using an under the bed shoe organizer to store toys - and give a bunch of super useful sex toy care tips from their own book, so I thought I’d jump onto the discussion bandwagon and give some of my own ideas about the wonderful world of sex toy storage!

While I think that cases that are specifically made to store sex toys are awesome, I know I can’t afford to buy one, and I don’t even know how necessary I think they really are in the grand scheme (other than the lockable feature).  I’m a big fan of Rubbermaid storage tubs - like the one pictured above.  I’m not quite up to the 31 gallons yet, but I am not far, let me tell you.  The one I have now is an under the bed storage box that opens half way on both sides like this, but it doesn’t fit everything I have, so it’s in the process of being phased out.

I chose a storage box doesn’t have compartments because many of my toys are oddly shaped or don’t fit into tight spaces (that’s what she said - oh hey!) You can also make your own shaped compartments by cutting cardboard to make dividers.  The bottom line is that you don’t want your silicone toys touching each other (they will melt) or anything jelly rubber in contact with other toys (jelly rubber leaks phthlates) and you want to keep them free of dirt and dust.

To keep my toys safe and sound, I like to make toy pouches out of old cotton t-shirts.  I just take an old shirt and cut out a long strip of fabric big enough to hold the toy when folded in half.  Then I just fold it in half and stitch up the sides, leaving the top open.  Sometimes I make a button hole and button closure at the top, but usually just cinch a piece of string around the toy to keep it closed.  If you are feeling really ambitious, you can even embroider your toy’s name on the outside of the bag.  Tre crafty!!  These little bags are prefect for nightstand draws too if you want to have a little bit of privacy if the casual snooper comes through.  I like using t-shirt cotton material because it is super soft and lint free, which means I don’t have to worry about pulling stray lint fuzzies off my dick before using it.  Satin also works great for this project.  Stay away from wools or any other fabric that could leave fuzzies.

Other storage options incude:

- To keep small vibes and bullets organized, try a fishing tackle box or one of those old school Caboodles makeup cases.

- If locking is a major concern, store your toys in an old suitecase and lock it with a luggage lock.  Not only will no one think to look in an old suitcase, but it will be locked for added security.  Bonus points for a super cute hat box case!

-  You don’t care who sees your toys? Awesome!  What about an over the door shoe organizer?  The clear plasic pouches allow you to see exactly where everything for easy access and keeps everything separate! Handy!

Just a few suggestions from the old Den o’ Debauchery.  Have any other ideas?  Crazy creative containers?  Comment away!

xoxo
